Laser Hair Removal for Men's Body Hair - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Body hair removal was in days gone by, a strictly a female thing. These days, more and more men are opting for the same grooming rituals as women and although most men don't necessarily want all of their body hair removed, they do want it thinned out, mainly on their back and chest. Hairy backs, chests, legs and bellies are a turn-off for a lot of women and so more than ever, men are succumbing to the pressure to remove body hair.

These are some of the most popular hair removal treatments for men:

Waxing
The main advantage of waxing away unwanted hair is that the results do last for a while. Heated wax is spread over the required area with a spatula, then a strip removes the wax, along with the hair. The hair is removed at the root which means you’ll be hair-free for up to six weeks, and because it's removed at the root, it will grow back with fine, rather than blunt hair.

Electrolysis
Although electrolysis can permanently remove hair, it's a slow and painful hair removal treatment, which can sometimes result in scarring. A small electric current is applied with a fine needle-shaped electrode, or metal probe into each hair follicle and this destroys the root. Minor discomfort might be experienced and more than one treatment is required for it to be most effective. With electrolysis, each hair follicle is treated individually, making it a time-consuming and painful process.

Shaving
Shaving is probably the easiest method of hair removal. With just a razor and shaving cream you can get rid of hair from any part of the body, and it's easy and painless as long as you don’t nick yourself with the razor. But as the hair grows back, unfortunately this makes shaving with a razor only a temporary solution.

Depilatories/Cream Hair Removers
Depilatory creams contain chemicals that react safely with the unwanted hair on the body. They break down the proteins in the hair, causing it to weaken and dissolve. The hair is left in a jelly like state, and is wiped away with the cream.

Laser
The laser beam passes through the skin to the hair follicles. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, without harming the surrounding skin, and stops future hair growth. With male hair removal becoming increasingly popular, laser hair removal is an ideal treatment for those wanting a smooth chest or hair-free back and almost anywhere on the body can be treated, including ears, sideburns or nipples.

Selston Cosmetic Clinic uses the most advanced Laser Technology to offer a safe and effective way to reduce unwanted body and facial hair. Long lasting results can now be obtained with Laser hair removal, and both small and large areas can be treated quickly and effectively, compared to other methods. After treatment, hair follicles might seem to grow for one to two weeks. Typically these are lifeless hairs and they will fall out quite easily.

Depending on the area, treatments can take from 10 minutes and up to 45 minutes for the back. Only 30% of  hair is usually in the growth phase at any one time and the laser can only target these hairs. Therefore a series of treatments are required to achieve long-term results, generally around 6 treatments are required spaced 4-6 weeks apart, and this usually results in 80% of hair removal. Some clients might experience a slight redness in the treated area, but his should resolve in a day or two and you are requested to avoid sun exposure and use daily sunscreen following any laser treatment.

Balding, Receding, Thinning Hair Loss & FUE Hair Transplants - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

A recent survey found that men fear losing their hair, either by it thinning, receding or by going bald completely, will make them unattractive in the eyes of others when really it's how a man handles his hair changes is what is, or isn't attractive. The survey revealed that men who have bald fathers tend to keep their own hair short, so that if the hair begins to fall out, it wouldn't be such a shock to lose it all.

Lots of men, it would seem, worry about what others think about their hair loss. Some men see the first signs of baldness and just shave off the lot, while others look for ways to hide it, to put off the inevitable and cover up, either with baseball caps or the dreaded comb over! No-one likes to admit they’re getting older, let alone have the evidence staring back at them every time they look in the mirror.

There are three general patterns of male pattern hair loss, and men can experience any one of these patterns of hair loss or a mixture of all three:

Receding hairline
A receding hairline is one of the most common hair loss patterns, where the hair is lost at the temples, either side of the forehead, usually leaving a mound in the middle. This may sometimes be the only area of hair loss, but others may experience thinning at the crown as well.

Thinning crown
Some men will experience their hair thinning at the crown, which is at the back or top of the head. This can occur by itself or coincide with a receding hairline. Usually hair loss starts with thinning at the crown until the scalp becomes visible, and in time a bald patch may appear. This bald patch may grow wider until it meets the receding hairline, or it may stay at the top or back of the head and spread outwards in all directions to produce a circular baldness.

General thinning
General thinning spreads evenly over the top of the scalp, and men will not get a distinct receding hairline or a thinning crown. With general thinning, the onset of hair loss is less obvious and takes longer to notice.

One method of restoring hair to a follically challenged head is by using the FUE hair transplant technique, which we offer at the Selston Cosmetic Clinic. FUE Hair Transplants are the most advanced hair transplantation procedure available on the market today. Developed by renowned hair transplant surgeon Dr. Raghu Reddy. Dr. Reddy's main practice is in Harley Street, London and his satellite clinic serving the North and Midlands is the Selston Cosmetic Clinic.

FUE hair transplants are very popular as:
  • They deliver more natural-looking results.
  • The treatment is less painful than other methods.
  • Downtime is minimal.

FUE involves taking healthy hair follicles from the scalp one by one and grafting them into the bald areas of the head. The surgeon transplants hair follicles into the same slot that contained previous hair, giving it a better chance of settling in permanently. This method of transplanting is very intricate and it requires special attention and care. This means the treatment is completed over a number of sessions and not performed in one long exhausting procedure. The grafts usually take in a few days and the redness caused by the treatment settles in under a week.

In most cases, once you receive the aesthetics, you'll only feel minimal discomfort during the procedure. With the FUE hair transplant technique, visible scarring on the scalp is negligible. FUE transplant procedures are less painful compared to earlier transplant treatments and they tend to produce more natural looking results.

Give us a call and we will restore your crowning glory!

FUE Hair Transplants for Hair Loss - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

FUE hair transplants

A recent study on hair loss has shown that the average time between noticing hair loss for the first time and visiting a doctor about hair loss treatment, is six years. And as hair loss is normally a gradual process this does seem to make sense. Before this, men go through the denial stage, then they hope their hair loss will stop, or bizarrely that the hair loss will reverse itself and their hair will come back!  If  you look at the history of hair loss patterns of parents and close relatives, then the fate of your own hair must seem inevitable. The sooner you seek out hair restoration treatment, the better the outcome. Starting hair loss treatment early means that you will have fewer  years of worry, watching your hair disappear down the plug hole.

FUE hair transplants are a process that involves removing some of the healthy hair follicles that are already on your head and then transplanting them individually to the areas of your head that are currently without hair. If possible, the transplanted hair will be put into the same slot that the former hair follicles were in, to keep the look as natural as possible.  And this also helps to increase the chances that the hair stays permanently transplanted, so that you never have to worry about going bald again – or at least drastically reduce the amount of hair loss you are currently faced with.

Before starting treatment it’s helpful to consider whether your hair loss has remained stationary for  some time, as this means no further hair loss is taking place.
If it's the initial stage of hair loss that's where hair is still shedding, then it may be that you will require more treatments later on, as continued hair loss takes place.
If it has remained the same for a while, and no further hair loss seems to be taking place, then there is a greater chance that you may only need one treatment to keep the results in place.

Before
After

If you do decide to have the transplant done, you may wonder what you should be expecting. In most cases, the transplant isn’t going to hurt and once you receive the aesthetics, you’ll feel only minimal discomfort the entire time the procedure is being performed. The chances of visible scarring are negligible, so once it’s completed, you shouldn’t be able to notice that you've had the hair transplant done. Having a FUE hair transplant tends to be a less painful procedure compared to earlier transplant methods and it also produces more natural looking results. This is a big reason why it’s a far more attractive option for most people considering the process.

At the Selston Cosmetic Clinic, the team is headed by Dr Raghu Reddy who is now known as one of the best hair transplant surgeons in the country.  Dr Reddy is a world renowed hair restoration surgeon and pioneer of Third generation FUE or the H + technique. He is delivering consistent outstanding results.
Dr Reddy and his team have performed close to 3000 successful hair restoration procedures using FUE technique.

So if your hair loss is getting you down, then this is definitely a process you'll want to be considering.

Hair Extensions = Hair Loss ? Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield.

Hair Loss on Women

Can hair extensions lead to hair loss ?

The magic of hair extensions is one of the best kept beauty secrets of the ladies of today. However, few of us realise the risk this growing beauty trend poses for permanent hair loss. Symptoms ranging from blinding headaches, to patchy hair loss and sometimes permanent damage are making doctors warn women about the dangers of hair extensions.

Whether long tumbling locks blowing in the breeze or a classy up do, who wouldn’t want the magic of hair extensions? The ease of being able to change your image on a whim, rather than spending years waiting for your own hair to grow must be every girls dream.  But unknown to many, extensions can cause serious damage to your hair, due to the weight of the extensions pulling at your own hair. It may break off or even worse, leave you with bald patches. Is it worth the risk?

When celebrities are seen using hair extensions to frequently change their look, women in huge numbers, and men to a smaller extent started to buy into this trend, turning hair extensions into a multimillion pound industry virtually overnight.

Britney Spears
Britney - Hair loss

The theory behind hair extensions is wonderful. You can increase the length or volume of your hair by simply attaching either artificial or human hair to the ends of your own hair. This ranges from using small clips, or small metal rings that are crimped on, or using potentially harmful glues which can strip hair of its protective layers, to sewing in bunches of extensions to your existing hair which has to be weaved into rows. The problem is the ways  you have to attach the extra hair to your own hair and the potential damage these techniques can cause.

Victoria Beckham

Overtime the friction and tugging of the added weight at the scalp, can cause injury to the natural hair follicle and hair loss can occur. Any chemical or mechanical treatment of the hair can damage at both the root and the shaft, causing it to break at or just above the extension joins. If the hair is pulled out often enough, the follicle will simply die, resulting in hair loss, a condition known as Traction Alopecia.

Naomi Campbell showing hair loss
Hair extensions have received a lot of attention in recent years as more and more celebrities are encountering side effects associated with long term use. For every star who walks down the red carpet with long flowing locks, there are the celebrities who have suffered irreparable damage to their own natural heads of hair. Friends star Jennifer Aniston had her extensions removed and had to have a shorter haircut after the use of extensions damaged her own hair to such a degree that it was no longer repairable. Britney Spears, Naomi Campbell, Victoria Beckham and Kim Kardashian have all shown signs of hair loss incurred through the wearing of hair extensions.

Hair loss experts have pointed out that the occasional short term wearing of hair weaves and extensions should have no long lasting negative effects, but that sustained and continuous usage can result in hair loss problems.

Women experiencing hair loss and damage caused by hair extensions should have the extensions removed as soon as possible. A lot of women find that the damage leaves their own hair unsightly and their first thought may be to replace it with further extensions – unfortunately this will only aggravate the problem and should be avoided to prevent permanent hair loss. If the damage isn't too bad, then a visit to a  hair stylist should be enough to correct the appearance, although it may require a dramatic change in hairstyle to remove damaged hair, but over time the hair should grow back normally and healthily without having to resort to medical intervention.

Hair extensions can completely change your appearance for the better, but generally it is not a good idea to leave them in for too long.
Less can be more.

Laser Hair Removal - Nottingham, Derby , Mansfield and Chesterfield.

Laser Hair Removal

We all have some unwanted hair somewhere on our bodies which causes us embarrassment. It can sometimes take a severe toll on our self esteem and also on our social lives.
Especially when it appears on places that are usually not deemed to be 'feminine'

Shaving, threading, bleaching, plucking, depilatory cream and waxing are all time consuming, and what is worse is that these results are only temporary.
Electrolysis can permanently remove hair but is an extremely slow, drawn out and painful method and worryingly can sometimes result in scarring.

Perhaps this is why so many people, women and men, are beginning to turn to Laser Hair Removal as a more permanent solution.

Using Laser Hair Removal, hair can be removed almost permanently from the :

Upper Lip.   Now, I have absolutely nothing against a nice moustache, just not on a woman ! A hairy lip seems to be more noticeable on dark haired ladies, but whether fair or dark, we all find it embarrassing.

Chin.   Women despair when a chin hair appears. They can sprout on young, or older ladies. They promptly get plucked out but as time progresses another one inevitably grows in it's place ! The only problem is that when they grow back, they seem to come back thicker.

Forearms.   Strappy tops and sleeveless dresses are not really a great idea when you have hairy forearms like Chewbacca ! Accessorising is also a bit dodgy when bracelets tug on your arm hair. Even technology is against hairy arms - the Apple watch has had sensors removed after arm hair interfered with it's new features !

Underarms.    Hairy underarms are at present having a mainstream moment, what with singer Miley Cyrus and actress Jemima Kirke showing off their armpit growth on Instagram and YouTube.
And who can forget the media outrage when Julia Roberts revealed her hairy armpits on the red carpet at her film premier a few years ago ?
In most cultures, hairy underarms on ladies are considered an unhygienic and unpleasant sight and for the majority of us everyday people, we would sooner be sporting hair free pits !

Legs.   Hairy legs ! Who needs them. In winter at least we can hide them under trousers and tights. But come summer and it's time for the yearly ritual of unveiling the legs and we all want to get our legs out in the sunshine and on the beach.
Hair free legs are a must if you are applying fake tan, for a smooth, even application.

Bikini line.   Being caught out with an untrimmed bikini line is a woman's worst nightmare. With it being such a delicate area, care is needed in the hair removal treatment. Shaving can result in rashes and bumps and waxing can irritate the skin and cause little 'chicken skin' bumps around the hair follicles.

Back.   This affects men and some women. Of all the places that the body sprouts hair, for men the back is probably the most universally despised. It seems that for some ladies chest hair can be considered sexy but a sweater-full of back hair is definitely not !

Laser Hair Removal is a very popular method of permanent hair reduction with women, and more increasingly with men and it is a very popular treatment at the Selston Cosmetic Clinic.
Laser energy is used which causes damage to the hair follicles which in turn stops the growth of new hair in the damaged follicle.

So why not get yourself ready for next Summer? No more plucking, waxing, bleaching or threading. Just imagine the time you will save !
