Keep Skin Fresh With Microdermabrasion & Chemical Peels - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Before we can look after our skin, firstly we should do some research to find out what type of skin we actually have. We can have oily, normal, dry or sensitive skin, or maybe a combination of skin types. We all try to take care of our skin, spending time and money on its maintainance, but sometimes our skin care routine is actually the cause of some of our skin problems!

If your daily routine involves using lots of different creams and lotions, it might be time to simplify things. A lengthy complicated skin care regime can cause problems to the skin, causing damage to the skin barrier, which is one reason the skin might dry out or get spots and rashes.

We should use creams that are appropriate for the age of our skin. What worked for us when we were twenty, just won't be right for our skin in its thirties, forties and older, so we should reassess the products we put on our face. The skin changes as we get older, and where it was probably spotty in our teens and maybe a bit oily at twenty, by thirty we are showing fine lines and wrinkles on the face and in our forties and older our skin can show age spots, become drier and less firm.

A thick heavy cream doesn't mean it's more hydrating for the skin. It can sit on the face and clog up the pores, trapping dead cells, causing spots and leaving the skin looking dull. Weekly exfoliation will remove the dead cells and revitalise the skin and give it a healthy glow. A serum is a much lighter and hydrating option to use on the face with its concentrated ingredients.

Our lifestyle can also have a negative effect on our skin, so to keep our skin in a good condition we have to address certain lifestyle choices.
  • Smoking will dehydrate the skin and give you wrinkles as well as being bad for our health.
  • Excess alcohol causes blood vessels in the face to dilate, resulting in red, spidery veins. Excess alcohol consumption can also exacerbate pre-existing skin conditions such as rosacea.
  • Stress can have a negative effect on the health of our skin, so we should work on reducing our stress levels. Exercise and meditation are great stress relievers and can help to improve our overall health and quality of life.

Although we should always avoid excessive periods of strong sun exposure, any exposure to the sun has an ageing effect on the skin so we should always wear a high factor sunscreen, even when it's not sunny. Sun damage is the single greatest cause of ageing and can result in freckles, sun spots, pigmentation, wrinkles and at worst it can lead to skin cancer.

A professional treatment can help keep the facial skin in tip-top condition. Regular facials to remove dead, dull skin can really lift the complexion. Microdermabrasion and chemical peels can hydrate and brighten the skin, reduce lines and wrinkles and erase sun spots.
