Dr. Bassi has been in the aesthetic industry for more than 10 years, and prior to that he has worked as a local GP for 18 years. He holds multiple qualifications and is a member of the British Association of Body Sculpting, the General Medical Council (GMC no. 2941008) and an Associate Member of the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors. He also holds Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees. Almost everyone has moles on their skin and nearly all of them are harmless.
Moles occur when cells in the skin grow in a cluster instead of being spread throughout the skin. Moles are often a brownish colour, although some may be darker or skin-coloured. They can be flat or raised, smooth or rough, and some have hair growing from them. They are usually circular or oval with a smooth edge.

Society unfairly criticizes and makes fun of people with moles, especially on the face. Movies and TV shows over the years often seem to characterise the baddies, the wicked people and wrong 'uns with moles and warts on their face.

Some celebrities have defining moles (or 'beauty spots' as some call them) including Cindy Crawford, Mariah Carey, Eva Mendes and of course Marilyn Monroe. And whilst these stars opted to keep their moles, it has to be said that theirs are small, neat and quite unobtrusive. It wouldn't quite be as alluring if Marilyn had a dark brown hairy mole on her face, would it ?
On the other hand, gorgeous Enrique Iglesias, Sarah Jessica Parker and Madonna all had a mole removal procedure.

Moles can be irritating, annoying and even painful and they can really affect our self confidence.
Unlike a concealed mole on your back or leg, a facial mole or those on the neck are out there for everyone to see. And, as with spots and pimples, it seems to be an involuntary reflex to touch them, as if to check that they are still there ! You can try to hide them under make-up but you are still very much aware that they are still there.... lurking.

We all have some unwanted hair somewhere on our bodies which causes us embarrassment. It can sometimes take a severe toll on our self esteem and also on our social lives.
Especially when it appears on places that are usually not deemed to be 'feminine'

Shaving, threading, bleaching, plucking, depilatory cream and waxing are all time consuming, and what is worse is that these results are only temporary.
Electrolysis can permanently remove hair but is an extremely slow, drawn out and painful method and worryingly can sometimes result in scarring.

Perhaps this is why so many people, women and men, are beginning to turn to Laser Hair Removal as a more permanent solution.

Using Laser Hair Removal, hair can be removed almost permanently from the :

Upper Lip.   Now, I have absolutely nothing against a nice moustache, just not on a woman ! A hairy lip seems to be more noticeable on dark haired ladies, but whether fair or dark, we all find it embarrassing.

In most cultures, hairy underarms on ladies are considered an unhygienic and unpleasant sight and for the majority of us everyday people, we would sooner be sporting hair free pits !

Legs.   Hairy legs ! Who needs them. In winter at least we can hide them under trousers and tights. But come summer and it's time for the yearly ritual of unveiling the legs and we all want to get our legs out in the sunshine and on the beach.
Hair free legs are a must if you are applying fake tan, for a smooth, even application.

Bikini line.   Being caught out with an untrimmed bikini line is a woman's worst nightmare. With it being such a delicate area, care is needed in the hair removal treatment. Shaving can result in rashes and bumps and waxing can irritate the skin and cause little 'chicken skin' bumps around the hair follicles.

Back.   This affects men and some women. Of all the places that the body sprouts hair, for men the back is probably the most universally despised. It seems that for some ladies chest hair can be considered sexy but a sweater-full of back hair is definitely not !

A Weekend Off..Selston Cosmetic Clinic

Selston Cosmetic Clinic is always busy, particularly on a weekend when Dr Bassi and myself are performing Vaser and Dr Reddy and his team are doing FUE Hair Transplants. 

So with a welcome weekend off we headed to London to relax and catch a show. On the Sunday we popped in to visit our highly acclaimed hair transplant surgeon.....to find him in an apron cooking us pancakes for breakfast!! 

So delicious they were, i have told him to bring his frying pan to Selston when he returns from holidays....his skills as a surgeon are totally wasted!! :)

Nip Me, Stitch Me, Tuck Me...At Selston

Vaser Lipo - Results... Nearly 3 Years on at Selston Cosmetic Clinic

This is an article in which i hope to give my thoughts and reflections about the Vaser lipo procedure 3 years down the line at SCC.

Approximately 3 years ago Smartlipo was all the rage. This was when a laser was used , which melted the fat, and the fat was left inside the body to be excreted. The areas treated were small and the results were unpredictable, and fat removal or contour definition was minimal.

Vaser Lipo initially came to compete with this treatment, the areas treated were small akin to smart lipo and aspiration of the subsequent fat at that time was in my opinion ..conservative. However the results were still far superior to Smart lipo.....everybody was happy!

In life nothing stands still.....

In th UK early 2010 Vaser Mid Def and Vaser Hi Def arrived..we were fully Hi Def trained and ready to go by Feb 2010 .What we can now achieve with Vaser Lipo for the right candidates is impressive to say the least.

These procedures remove a greater amount of fat but also have the objective of contour definition... Vaser Hi Def is the ultimate treatment , but post op recovery is lengthy.

Vaser Mid Def is becoming the procedure of choice with clients at Selston Cosmetic Clinic. It marries Vaser Lipo with Vaser Hi Def, it removes fat, gives contour definition, post op recovery is easier compared to Vaser Hi Def and is cheaper!

Botox in Nottingham, Derby and Mansfield

I am contstantly surprised about the continuous surge of popularity of Botox in our practice, it is indeed the most used cosmetic treatment in the UK.

However, clients are still confused about the areas where Botox can be used. Botox corrects the fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes (crows feet), lines above the forehead, eg; the number elevens ( lines between the eyebrows) and the horizontal lines when you look up.

It can be used to create an eye lift, when the outer edge of your eyebrow is lifted, giving you a shape like an ''eagles wing'' . This arch is the most desirable shape for eyebrows and makes you look a lot fresher and less tired.

Advanced Botox practitioners can use Botox for migraines and to correct facial asymetry. It is also an excellent treatment for hyperhidrosis ( sweating under the armpits).

Botox has a 25 year history of usage and to confirm its popularity in some parts of the country, the number of people having it is equivalent to the number of people having their hair highlighted!

For deep lines and wrinkles, such as smokers lines, the grooves between the nose and mouth.....cosmetic dermal fillers are needed.

Hair Removal for blonde hair.

The most popular make of treatment at our clinic is Laser Hair Removal, this is for dark and brown hair.

However laser is not suitable for fluffy and fine hair, which is normally, white, blonde or grey. We have find numurous clients asking for treatments for this as they do not want to wax........!




We are now using Alkaline Hair Wash which is used for fine downy hair . This is formulated as a deep action hair remover. This treatment works by dissolving part of the underlying hair follicle beneath the skin. This releases hair from the hair follicle giving smooth, hair free skin immediately after treatment. Alkaline Hair Wash does not stimulate dormant hair follicles as waxing sometimes does.


In our experience up to 6 treatments are needed for this.

Now blonde people can have the benefits of hair removal too!

Vaser Hi-Def...' Bueno' to Bogota Feb 2010

Escaping the dire British weather, Dr Bassi and myself jetted off to Bogota in search of the latest techniques which would take Vaser Liposuction to the next level.

This new skill would make Dr Bassi one of the handful in the country to be Vaser Hi-Def trained. We and 10 other doctors from around the world were descending upon the genius behind Vaser Hi-Def, Dr Alfredo Hoyos and his esteemed world renowned Vaser Hi-Def trainers, Dr John Millard and Dr David Broadway.

South America being the home of cosmetic surgery, we soon discovered that from late teens, most people were on the route to self improvement! Every young person had perfect breasts and any excess flesh lead them to the operating table to achieve bodily perfection.

After touring the beautiful city of Bogota it was soon off to work, a day of lectures was followed by five days in the operating theatres. Both male and female patients were given the Hoyos magic, he laughed and joked his way through procedures making it look as easy as washing dishes! The end results were truly amazing, men looked like they had been working on their six packs all their lives, women looked like they had stepped off beach babe calendars, everything perfectly honed and chiselled!


I being quite a cynic was totally in awe of this procedure and the talent behind the team. What a shame we were there for such a short time, i'd have jumped on the table and begged them to throw every available treatment at me!

The evenings were spent soaking up the Colombian culture, and dining in fine restaurants under the starry moonlit sky. We return from a fabulous, enjoyable, informative and educational trip ready to take our place as a fully officially trained Vaser Hi-Def centre.

The Laser Skin Rejuvenation programme at Selston Cosmetic Clinic

After having performed numerous laser skin rejuvenation treatments with our state of the art Laser system, I thought I would reflect and share my thoughts with you.

Laser skin rejuvenation is a great treatment for everybody regardless of age, however it isn’t cheap, being at the top end of our treatment menu at £149 per treatment, but the rewards are impressive and we pride ourselves on the fact that this is a great price when compared to our competitor clinics.

Because of the budget implications I tend to recommend microdermabrasion or skin peels, priced at around £80 per treatment, whenever possible. However when it comes to people with mature skin, sun damaged skin or who have overdone it on the ‘trusty’ sun beds and at the beach, then laser skin rejuvenation is really the only way to go.

Not that microdemabrasion and skin peels don’t have a place with laser skin rejuvenation, as a matter of fact it can be combined with these treatments and both derma roller therapy (skin needling) and our new plasma-rich protein skin rejuvenation therapy.

In my opinion the skin looks fresher, tighter with an even skin tone and gives that extra special glow!

Laser Hair Removal for Traditionally Incompatible Hair?

I have noticed Laser Hair Removal is becoming very popular here at Selston Cosmetic Clinic and with our state of the art laser system, competitive prices and amazing results, we light to think that is rightly so!

When it comes to those fitting into the standard criteria for laser hair removal we have to say that the results our clients achieve are very impressive, and our clients are in agreement as with us on that.

However our cosmetic team receives numerous enquiries for laser hair removal from clients with blonde hair, fine downy and grey hair. Unfortunately laser hair removal is typically beyond the reach of these hair types and gives very poor results, thus we have no choice but to advise against this treatment... but wait!

Due to the sheer amount of clients whose hair falls into these traditionally untreatable hair types, here at Selston Cosmetic Clinic we have looked into how this issue can be addressed and we are glad to say that soon this will be a reality.

How? Well it is a new treatment called the Alkaline Hair Wash, which can be used as a stand alone treatment or combined with laser hair removal to give that smooth finished hair free look!

A New Addition to the Selston Cosmetic Team!

Hi all! - Roberta James here again,!

Due to increase in the volume of clients here at Selston Cosmetic Clinic, we now feel it is the time to bring somebody on board to help with the range of cosmetic treatments that we offer.

For the past few months Dr Bassi and myself have been training Helen (already a fully qualified nurse) who is going to work with me as a Cosmetic Technician.

It has been a lot of hard work to achieve the high standard necessary to get Helen fully trained, but it has certainly paid off and Helen is now ready to be join us as a valuable member of the team and provides us with another excellent asset.

The Story of Rashid from Brunei

Rashid mopped his brow as he stepped onto the 747 at Bandar International Airport, Brunei.

Walking straight into business class, his mind wandered as to what the next seven days would unfold. As he adjusted his seat to a more comfortable position, his confidence returned; he had made the right decision.

Arriving at Heathrow, he jumped into his hire car and headed straight for Selston Cosmetic Clinic near Nottingham. His hotels had been pre-booked and his garment had been pre-delivered to the clinic. He was good to go!

After his sixteen hour flight and two hour car journey, Rashid had eventually arrived for his cascade of Vaser Lipo sessions over the next three days.

The first day after 2 litres of fat were extracted from his breasts, Rashid donned his compression garment, brushed his teeth, meticulously combed his hair, put on his black tuxedo and headed off to a reunion party! No stopping this man!

Forty eight hours later he returned to have Vaser Lipo of his lower abdomen, once again this man is unstoppable! He was off in his hire car to visit friends and family down south.

The only trepidation Rashid now felt was the sixteen hour flight back home! He had certainly had an action packed trip to the UK along with his new makeover!
