Do you dread revealing your upper arms during the warm summer months? Do you clamp your arms to your sides because your upper arms are a little wobbly? Well you are definitely not alone.

 

'Bingo wings' is the nickname given to flabby upper arms, usually in women as they grow older. Getting them is more likely on people who are overweight or obese and though dieting may help to reduce bingo wings, loose skin can still remain after sudden weight loss. They are almost impossible to shift with ordinary exercise routines.

Bingo wings – nobody wants them, but there they are, wobbling away like jelly on a plate! The term 'Bingo wings' is a slang word which is used to describe folds of loose skin or flesh hanging from the undersides of the upper arms. It's said the nickname originated in 1990's, when women playing Bingo raise their hand to signal a win and the loose arm flesh jiggles about.

Bingo wings are not pleasant to have and put a lot of restrictions on what people, mainly women, feel they can or can’t wear, especially in the warmer months when sleeveless tops, dresses or vest tops are the norm. A few years ago there was a media campaign, calling for mainstream shops and clothes designers to make more clothes with flattering sleeves.

A great number of women won't wear anything that will put their upper arms on display because they are so embarrassed with their untoned and flabby arms. Many resort to a cover up of some kind, with jackets, cardigans, shrugs and pashminas being their main choices.

When it comes to flabby, flapping upper arms, it has usually been a case of grin and bare them - or else cover them up with a cardi! A lot of women don't own too many sleeveless outfits, as their arms are no longer one of their better features and prefer to keep them covered up. Bingo wings can make even the most confident of women feel self-conscious about sleeveless and short-sleeved clothing.

What to wear and what not to wear:

• Cap sleeves. These are a no-no. Cap-sleeve tops or dresses are an alternative to sleeveless, but they will make your arms look heavier, as they cut off right at the part of the arm that is the widest.
• Puffed sleeves. The puffy sleeves will only draw attention to the arms as the puff sleeve has lots of volume.
• Off-the-shoulder tops. Every woman has sexy shoulders, so get around Bingo Wings by choosing long or short-sleeve tops that are off the shoulder, on one or both sides.
• Elasticated or short sleeves with a cuff. Any tightness around a heavier area only accentuates the problem. If you do wear short sleeves, choose fabric with plenty of  'give' or sleeves with a wider opening.
• Illusion clothing. A great way to disguise heavy upper arms is to wear fabric which has a chiffon, sheer net or mesh look. These fabrics hide a multitude of sins.

This gentleman in his early forties is a keen runner, running around 6 miles twice a week.

He has a very active and heavy job which involves international travel.

He stated after much research, looking at many websites, he eventually chose us and came up for a consultation at Selston Cosmetic Clinic, travelling all the way up from London.

This gentleman in his late thirties, travelled from Brighton to Nottingham for his Vaser Lipo procedure. He goes to the gym regularly, doing cardio and lifting weights.

He was unable to achieve that athletic look despite all his efforts.

Dr Bassi breaks the procedure into 2 stages, as he believes the client has much better results and pain control, as we can flood the area with generous amounts of local anaesthetic and extract the maximum amount of fat.

We can offer a one stage procedure but this is under conscious sedation needing a consultant anaesthetist present.

The advantages of this is that it is done in one stage, but the cost is the same as having a 2 stage procedure. We firmly believe two stage procedures give you better results, the results are equivalent as if you were having the procedure done under general anaesthetic in hospital.

Rio... Here We Come!

We recently were fortunate to take a break from our busy weekends performing Vaser Lipo and fly to the home of cosmetic surgery..Brazil!  We started in Rio De Janeiro.. a stunning destination with glorious weather.

We were also lucky enough to fly in on the weekend of the Rio Carnival. Wow, this was a sight to be seen..the Brazillians were shaking them butts till 5 in the morning!

This is a very interesting story.... this lady in her twenties was a fitness model and the top photo shows how she looked this last Summer. She took on a stressful career that involved copious amounts of studying. By Christmas she had gained 3 stone plus.
