Clear Up Active Acne With Laser Technology - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

There's never an ideal time to get outbreak of acne and whether they're on the face of a pimply teenage girl, a spotty youth or an adult, spots can embarrass us and cause us to feel self-conscious. Lots of things, such as cosmetics, dust, pollution and even shaving are all things that can irritate your skin or clog your pores, and they can also bring bacteria to this area, which is also responsible for spots. Frequent face washing can help prevent acne from getting worse, using a mild soap or cleanser and wearing minimal make-up and trying not to squeeze any blackheads, white heads or spots can also help.

Active acne is a common inflammatory skin condition affecting adolescents and adults. Acne scarring on the skin can occur after outbreaks of extreme acne, causing the sufferer feelings of insecurity. About 80% of teenagers will get acne between the ages of 13 and 18 years because of changes to their hormone levels, which cause the sebaceous glands to produce increased amounts of sebum that can block the hair follicles.

Facial acne is easier to treat than body acne, but there's a bigger chance of the flare-ups on the face re-occurring. Acne is caused by skin cells that don't shed properly, plugging the pores and causing oil and bacteria to become trapped inside. As the oil and bacteria accumulate, the skin becomes inflamed and swells outwards, forming white heads, blackheads and pimples.

Advanced laser technology in acne treatment is effective for adult and adolescent acne and various grades of acne; severe, moderate or mild. Most people experience minimal discomfort and some may experience a minor stinging sensation on the skin as we deliver the laser pulses. Before the treatment, a topical anaesthetic cream gets applied to the skin, and the advanced laser system has a cooled sapphire window on the tip of the laser scope, to further protect and cool the skin.

Clinical data suggests that most sufferers find that their acne will improve after about four treatments, two a week for two weeks. While many people continue to improve in the months following laser treatment, others will experience a plateau in their improvement. It might be necessary to have repeated treatments in the future to keep up the results.

Laser Technology, Microdermasbrasion & Face Peels for Acne & Acne Scarring - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Spots, pimples and blemishes are problems we hoped we’d grown out of, but acne isn't something that just happens to teenagers, it can strike at any age, whether you’re 15 or 55. It can also affect women going through the menopause, the truth is; it really doesn't make any difference if you’re male or female, what age you are or what type of skin you have.

Those with oily skin tend to suffer with acne breakouts more than others, but there are some ways to help those affected by spots.

Before & after laser treatment for active acne

Cleanse daily
  • Those with oily skin will find that washing the face at least twice a day will be beneficial. However, once a day for normal skin might be all the skin can tolerate, as too much cleansing can cause excessive dryness and irritation, ultimately making breakouts worse.
Exfoliate
  • Gentle exfoliating will keep your skin in a good condition and will remove the dead skin that can lead to blocked pores and acne.
Products
  • Too many face cream and moisturising products will overload the skin and might cause spots. You will need some moisturiser, so maybe use a lighter one to control your acne breakouts.
Sweat
  • If you take part in activities that cause you to sweat more, then take a shower! Your acne will get worse when oil produced from sweating just sits on your skin, because the chances of blocked pores will increase. A quick shower will help you to avoid making acne breakouts worse.

It doesn't matter what age you are, the cause of acne is the same. Acne is a skin condition caused by the hormones in the body triggering the sebaceous glands and producing excess oil. When the skin cells don't shed properly they plug the pores trapping the oil and bacteria. As oil and bacteria accumulate, it then inflames and pushes outwards, forming whiteheads, blackheads and spots.

Laser treatment on acne - Before & After

The acne problem can easily be made worse by piling on make-up to try and hide the spots and by picking at the breakouts. When you wake up to a facial breakout you want to hide your face from the world, and when acne scars the face it's very demoralising to accept that the skin will never look smooth or look flawless. Fortunately, these days there are plenty of solutions that can help.

At Selston Cosmetic Clinic we use the most advanced laser technology which is very effective for adult acne, adolescent acne and various grades of acne - severe, moderate or mild. The laser light activates the body's natural acne fighting defences, which reduces the severity of breakouts, now and in the future.

Microdermabrasion and chemical peels are also great treatments for acne scarring. They work by removing the top layer of dead skin and  revealing new, fresh and radiant skin underneath. Both treatments help clients get rid of unsightly acne scars, fine lines, uneven skin tones and blocked pores.

Laser Treatment Can Treat Active Acne - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

At some stage in our life we'll get acne on our face. It's a common skin disorder that affects people of all ages, but it is most common in young people, especially around the time of early puberty. We tend to think only of teenagers having to deal with acne, but unfortunately, many people suffer from adult acne problems. Getting acne isn’t just for teenagers, as many people can have acne breakouts in their 30’s, 40’s, and even 50’s.
Puberty
Your body begins to develop as you grow up and this causes an increase in hormones. These hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to make more sebum, and these glands can become overactive. The pores of the skin become clogged with excess oil, or sebum, and this is what causes acne.
Plugs
Blackheads and whiteheads occur when plugs block the top layer of the pores.
Bacteria
When acne becomes inflamed the contents become hot and infected, and the bacteria blockage ruptures through the skin's surface.
We blame lots of things for causing acne; a bad diet, too much stress and chocolate, but it's more likely that genetics, hormones, clogged up pores and bacteria are the main causes. Correct medical treatment can treat acne, but there are things that you can do, to help prevent the causes and discomforts of acne.
  • Food allergies - Some outbreaks of acne might be the result of food allergies. Write down what you eat and see how it affects the skin's condition. Go a couple of weeks without the food you think might trigger your acne, and look for alternatives.
  • Check ingredients - Soap can have harsh ingredients that dry out and irritate the skin, and this can lead to acne breakouts. Instead, try using a gentle cleanser for the face, making sure you don't scrub the skin too hard. A good cleaning routine will help to keep your pores clear and clean, but cleaning your face too often can cause more irritation and breakouts.
  • Touching - Try to stop touching your face. Throughout the day our hands are touching everything, accumulating dirt, germs and bacteria, and when we touch our face it goes on the skin, causing it to clog up the pores. Popping and squeezing spots will only make them worse because you’re passing the bacteria from one part of your face to another.
  • Tea tree oil - Tea Tree Oil is a natural disinfectant and dabbing a small amount on your blemishes, can help breakdown the bacteria and speed up the healing process, without removing the skin’s natural moisture.
  • Stay hydrated - Water is very important to the body and drinking 8 glasses of water a day will help to keep the body and skin hydrated. Drinking water will help to give you clear, beautiful skin, by flushing out the toxins in your system, cleansing your cells of built-up waste.
We use the most advanced laser technology at Selston Cosmetic Clinic, with new advancements in acne treatment, which is effective for adult acne, adolescent acne and various grades of acne; severe, moderate or mild.

Benefits of laser treatment on acne;
  • It's effective on all forms of acne vulgaris
  • Laser suits all skin types, face or body
  • There's no side effects
  • An excellent alternative to topical treatments
  • Smoother skin complexion and a clearer-looking skin
  • Laser also diminishes acne scars
  • Lasting results
  • Laser has a proven safety record
Early intervention is recommended, as acne can result in lifelong scarring. Laser treatment can help not only the physical symptoms of acne but it will also give sufferers a new self-confidence, without the worry or embarrassment about their skin's condition.

Laser Treatment For Active Acne - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

There's nothing worse than getting spots, and an embarrassing outbreak of acne, whether you're a pimply teenage girl, a spotty youth or an adult is never an ideal scenario. The people we meet on a daily basis will look at our face first, and if we have spots it can cause us to feel self-conscious. We can try to help prevent our acne from getting worse, by avoiding frequent face washing, we can use a mild soap or cleanser, limit the amount of make-up we wear and try not to squeeze any blackheads, white heads or spots.

Around 80% of teenagers will get some degree of acne between the ages of 13 and 18 years because of changes to their hormone levels, which cause the sebaceous glands to produce increased amounts of sebum that can block the hair follicles. Spots usually occur on the face, arms, back and chest. The most embarrassing place to get acne, is on the face, as you can hide back or chest pimples underneath your clothing, but your face is always on show.

It's easier to treat facial acne than body acne, but there's a bigger chance of flare-ups on the face re-occurring. Acne, which is also known as acne vulgaris, is a common condition caused by skin cells that don't shed properly, plugging the pores and causing oil and bacteria to become trapped inside. As the oil and bacteria accumulate, the skin becomes inflamed and swells outwards, forming white heads, blackheads and pimples. Many things, such as cosmetics, dust, pollution and even shaving are all things that can irritate your skin or clog your pores, and they can also bring bacteria to this area, which is responsible for spots.

At Selston Cosmetic Clinic we use the most advanced laser technology in acne treatment and this treatment is effective for adult and adolescent acne and various grades of acne - severe, moderate or mild. The clinic's American FDA approved state of the art laser system delivers green laser light through the skin's surface, triggering the body's natural bacteria fighting defences, and significantly reducing any current and future breakouts.

Most clients experience minimal discomfort and some may experience a minor stinging sensation on the skin as we deliver the laser pulses. We always offer a topical anaesthetic cream to make the treatment more comfortable and our advanced laser system has a cooled sapphire window on the tip of the laser scope to further protect and cool the skin.

Clinical data suggests that most patients find their acne will improve after about four treatments, two a week for two weeks. While many patients continue to improve in the months following treatment, some patients experience a plateau in their improvement. It might be necessary to have repeated treatments in the distant future to keep up the results.

Chemical Peel for Rejuvenated Skin - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

It's well known that the winter months aren't kind to our skin. Whether it's being out in the harsh, wet, cold weather or spending most of our time indoors with the central heating drying out our skin. The truth is that come the Spring, our skin is definitely in need of a boost!

A lot of skin problems are associated with a build up of dead skin cells, which can make skin look dull with clogged up pores. Skin Peels offer a great way to treat and improve ageing skin, acne, sun damage and the skin's irregular pigmentation. With a short course of treatments, it can also help the skin to appear smoother, brighter and vastly improve the texture and colour of the skin.

This is where the Selston Cosmetic Clinic can come to your aid!
We offer revolutionary medical skin peels which are non-irritating, pain free and do not cause skin shedding or redness, which other, harsher chemical peels are usually associated with. These chemical peels have now become increasingly popular, giving fantastic results as seen on television programmes such as "10 Years Younger."

Treatment using chemical peels can:
  • Reduce fine lines from under the eyes and around the mouth
  • Treat wrinkles which are caused by sun damage and ageing
  • Improve the appearance of mild scars
  • Treat active acne
  • Reduce age spots, freckles and irregular pigmentation
  • Improve the look and texture of the skin

A chemical peel is a non-surgical procedure, with the aim being to enhance and rejuvenate the facial appearance, giving you smoother, softer, blemish free skin.

Why have chemical facial peels?

Over time, your skin can gradually appear dull and lifeless, which maybe caused by dead skin cells that accumulate and clog up your skin. Chemical facial peels will remove the dead skin cells from the surface of the skin to allow new healthy skin cells to grow back, which will create smoother looking skin.

The benefits of chemical skin peels:
  • The treatment is pain free
  • There is no skin shredding, no skin flaking, no irritation and no redness
  • Promotes growth of new skin, collagen and elastin, which thickens the skin and improves resistance to the effects of ageing
  • Skin peels make your face fresh and youthful and improves skin texture and tone
  • Suitable for all skin types (light to dark skin)
Dr Bassi at the Selston Cosmetic Clinic has over 10 years experience in the cosmetic industry and has performed numerous chemical peels. The doctor will examine your skin, discuss your requirements and recommend a treatment plan specific for you.

The procedure takes about 45 minutes and you can return to normal activities immediately following treatment. The treatment course consists of 6 treatments, each 4 weeks apart. Most clients see an improvement after their first treatment.

Peel away that winter skin and look forward to a bright, glowing Spring!

Alkaline Hair Wash results!

Since launching this new treatment, approximately 3 months ago, I can now give you my personal opinion.........

Clients that are requesting Alkaline hair wash removal, are clients who have completed Laser Hair removal and are left with fluffy fine hair. Also people with fine blonde hair with that downy hair look.

Not only does it remove hair but I have found that it does a very mild superficial skin peel and clients have told me their skin looks and feels smoother and more refined!

When the fluffy hair is removed it makes the skin look smooth and fresh, so when you walk into a room it gives you a presence!
