Laser Treatment Can Treat Active Acne - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

At some stage in our life we'll get acne on our face. It's a common skin disorder that affects people of all ages, but it is most common in young people, especially around the time of early puberty. We tend to think only of teenagers having to deal with acne, but unfortunately, many people suffer from adult acne problems. Getting acne isn’t just for teenagers, as many people can have acne breakouts in their 30’s, 40’s, and even 50’s.
Puberty
Your body begins to develop as you grow up and this causes an increase in hormones. These hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to make more sebum, and these glands can become overactive. The pores of the skin become clogged with excess oil, or sebum, and this is what causes acne.
Plugs
Blackheads and whiteheads occur when plugs block the top layer of the pores.
Bacteria
When acne becomes inflamed the contents become hot and infected, and the bacteria blockage ruptures through the skin's surface.
We blame lots of things for causing acne; a bad diet, too much stress and chocolate, but it's more likely that genetics, hormones, clogged up pores and bacteria are the main causes. Correct medical treatment can treat acne, but there are things that you can do, to help prevent the causes and discomforts of acne.
  • Food allergies - Some outbreaks of acne might be the result of food allergies. Write down what you eat and see how it affects the skin's condition. Go a couple of weeks without the food you think might trigger your acne, and look for alternatives.
  • Check ingredients - Soap can have harsh ingredients that dry out and irritate the skin, and this can lead to acne breakouts. Instead, try using a gentle cleanser for the face, making sure you don't scrub the skin too hard. A good cleaning routine will help to keep your pores clear and clean, but cleaning your face too often can cause more irritation and breakouts.
  • Touching - Try to stop touching your face. Throughout the day our hands are touching everything, accumulating dirt, germs and bacteria, and when we touch our face it goes on the skin, causing it to clog up the pores. Popping and squeezing spots will only make them worse because you’re passing the bacteria from one part of your face to another.
  • Tea tree oil - Tea Tree Oil is a natural disinfectant and dabbing a small amount on your blemishes, can help breakdown the bacteria and speed up the healing process, without removing the skin’s natural moisture.
  • Stay hydrated - Water is very important to the body and drinking 8 glasses of water a day will help to keep the body and skin hydrated. Drinking water will help to give you clear, beautiful skin, by flushing out the toxins in your system, cleansing your cells of built-up waste.

Laser Treatments for Acne Scars & Scarring - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

At some time in our life, nearly every one of us will suffer from spots, and for many this is just a part of life, due to puberty, hormones, stress or diet and thankfully these acne outbreaks soon disappear. Acne usually starts at puberty, it occurs in both sexes and tends to be worse in those with oily skin. In the teenage years, boys tend to have the most severe cases and women are more likely than men to have some form of acne into their 30s and beyond. Although acne usually happens in adolescence, about 20% of all cases occur in adults.

Having acne can happen to anyone and celebrities are just as vulnerable as the rest of us. They may have the resources to receive the best medical care, but they still suffer with the same skin problems that the rest of us do, and acne is certainly no exception. It might make us feel slightly better to know that even glamorous film stars like Cameron Diaz and successful models like Kate Moss sometimes have to deal with acne.

Prevention is always better than a cure, so to help keep the skin healthy and glowing :
  • Drink plenty of water. Many recommend drinking eight glasses of water a day!
  • Always wear sun screen. The sun rays are powerful and the skin can dry out without proper protection.
  • Wash your face twice a day. Freshen up at the start of your day, but remember to do the same at night, as your skin collects a lot of dirt throughout the day.
  • Don't over exfoliate your skin. Twice a week is plenty!
Scarring can result from untreated acne or any condition that causes a rash, such as chickenpox, where it's likely you will scratch or pick at the affected areas. There are various types of acne scars, ranging from mild angular or wavelike scars, to more the severe deep pitting or ice-pick scars. Scarring is a natural part of the healing process and certain cosmetic procedures, used on their own or combined, can even out the skin's surface.

At the Selston Cosmetic Clinic, we use the most advanced laser technology, to offer a safe and effective way for treatment of mild to moderate acne scars.

Using our American FDA approved dual wavelength laser system, which is non ablative, meaning the surface of the skin remains unchanged, with virtually no down time. The gentle lasers reach deep down to the collagen level of the skin, the precise therapeutic laser energy stimulates production of collagen and elastin fibres and this dramatically improves the look of acne scars.

Rosacea Laser Treatment - Nottingham, Derby , Mansfield and Chesterfield.

Living with a skin condition can be painful. It is often progressive, embarrassing and uncomfortable for the sufferer. Many individuals with skin disorders experience emotional effects such as isolation, self-esteem issues and sometimes even depression.

Rosacea, or acne rosacea, is a skin disorder leading to redness and pimples on the nose, forehead, cheekbones, and chin. In some cases, rosacea may also occur on the neck, chest, scalp or ears. The inflamed pimples and redness of rosacea can look a great deal like acne but blackheads are almost never present. One of the first signs of rosacea is the tendency to flush or blush easily.

Rosacea is considered one of the most common skin disorders with a characteristic flushing that comes and goes. It is a condition in which certain facial blood vessels enlarge, giving the cheeks and nose a flushed appearance. It is a chronic and potentially life-disruptive disorder and is often characterized by flare-ups and remissions.

Rosacea can mimic other skin conditions, including acne and sunburn, earning it the nickname the great pretender. Celebrity sufferers of rosacea include Princess Diana, Prince's William and Harry, Cameron Diaz, Bill Clinton and Sam Smith.

Many have observed that the condition typically begins at any time between the ages of 30 and 50 and it is likely to affect people who have previously suffered from acne or severe acne.

Some people are more likely than others to get rosacea, but anyone can get this skin disease. There are strong signs that ethnicity is a factor in the potential to develop rosacea. People from Celtic or Scandinavian ancestry who have lighter skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes are particularly susceptible. Rosacea has often been called the "Curse of the Celts"

There is evidence to suggest that rosacea may be inherited and sufferers are likely to have someone in their family tree with rosacea. People of all colours can get rosaceaIt is said that women are three times more likely than men to get rosacea, particularly during the menopause. Hot flushes are one of the most common symptoms of menopause and some women find that they can also trigger rosacea for the first time. Unfortunately symptoms can persist after the menopause too.

Women, however, are not as likely as men to get severe rosacea.
Rosacea's effect on men shouldn’t be overlooked, especially in matters of the nose. In men, the nose is primarily affected and the nose may become large and disfigured (this is known as  Rhinophyma)

Primary Signs of Rosacea are :

Flushing
A lot of people with rosacea have a history of frequent blushing or flushing. This facial redness may come and go, and is often the earliest sign of the disorder.

Persistent Redness
Persistent facial redness is the most common individual sign of rosacea, and may resemble a blush or sunburn that does not go away.

Bumps and Pimples
Small red solid bumps or pus-filled pimples often develop. While these may resemble acne, blackheads are absent and burning or stinging may occur.

Visible Blood Vessels
In many people with rosacea, small blood vessels (spider veins) become visible on the skin.

At the Selston Cosmetic Clinic, rosacea can be successfully treated using the most advanced laser technology.
We have achieved astounding results as our before and after photo's show.
