Freshen Your Skin With Microdermabrasion & Peels - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

The harsh winter winds, freezing rain and lack of sunshine can affect your skin condition, making your complexion look dull and lifeless. The end of winter is an ideal time to spring-clean your cosmetics and skin care products. There are a great number of creams, lotions and serums for the skin, and it's important to reassess your products and adapt your facial routines to suit the season we are in.

There are some things you can do to make your skin look it's best, and sorting out your facial products is a start. Firstly, you should decide which cosmetic items you no longer want or use and throw them away. Check out the expiry date on all of your creams and lotions, as any that are old or past their sell by date could actually be harbouring harmful bacteria, which can lead to clogged pores and dull skin. All skin care products have a certain shelf life, so if you don't use them, get rid of them. Accessories can also store unwanted germs and viruses, so you should ideally wash your make-up brushes weekly with hand soap, using a hair-dryer to dry them out.

Daily skin care products you wear in the winter months are thicker and heavier than you use in the warmer months, because in spring and summer you tend to use moisturisers and creams that are lighter in texture. You should also change the type of products you use, as what worked for your skin in your twenties, won't necessarily work as well for more mature skin as you get older.

To stimulate cell turnover, to get rid of dead skin cells and to make your skin smoother and healthier so it's ready to absorb your moisturiser and face creams, you should exfoliate your skin two to three times a week. A deep exfoliation treatment will strip away dull, tired skin, revealing the new fresh skin underneath. Removing the outer skin cells which are dead and damaged, will show the new skin, just in time for spring.

If you feel that your skin is looking dull and tired, a visit to a skin care professional for a deep cleansing facial treatment will revitalise your skin and brighten up your complexion. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion treatments will strip back the skin's dead layers, targeting sun-damaged skin, blocked pores and fine lines, getting your skin ready for creams and lotions to penetrate deeper, as well as giving your skin a revitalising treatment, and leaving you looking rejuvenated.

Laser Technology, Microdermasbrasion & Face Peels for Acne & Acne Scarring - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Spots, pimples and blemishes are problems we hoped we’d grown out of, but acne isn't something that just happens to teenagers, it can strike at any age, whether you’re 15 or 55. It can also affect women going through the menopause, the truth is; it really doesn't make any difference if you’re male or female, what age you are or what type of skin you have.

Those with oily skin tend to suffer with acne breakouts more than others, but there are some ways to help those affected by spots.

Before & after laser treatment for active acne

Cleanse daily
  • Those with oily skin will find that washing the face at least twice a day will be beneficial. However, once a day for normal skin might be all the skin can tolerate, as too much cleansing can cause excessive dryness and irritation, ultimately making breakouts worse.
Exfoliate
  • Gentle exfoliating will keep your skin in a good condition and will remove the dead skin that can lead to blocked pores and acne.
Products
  • Too many face cream and moisturising products will overload the skin and might cause spots. You will need some moisturiser, so maybe use a lighter one to control your acne breakouts.
Sweat
  • If you take part in activities that cause you to sweat more, then take a shower! Your acne will get worse when oil produced from sweating just sits on your skin, because the chances of blocked pores will increase. A quick shower will help you to avoid making acne breakouts worse.

It doesn't matter what age you are, the cause of acne is the same. Acne is a skin condition caused by the hormones in the body triggering the sebaceous glands and producing excess oil. When the skin cells don't shed properly they plug the pores trapping the oil and bacteria. As oil and bacteria accumulate, it then inflames and pushes outwards, forming whiteheads, blackheads and spots.

Laser treatment on acne - Before & After

The acne problem can easily be made worse by piling on make-up to try and hide the spots and by picking at the breakouts. When you wake up to a facial breakout you want to hide your face from the world, and when acne scars the face it's very demoralising to accept that the skin will never look smooth or look flawless. Fortunately, these days there are plenty of solutions that can help.

At Selston Cosmetic Clinic we use the most advanced laser technology which is very effective for adult acne, adolescent acne and various grades of acne - severe, moderate or mild. The laser light activates the body's natural acne fighting defences, which reduces the severity of breakouts, now and in the future.

Microdermabrasion and chemical peels are also great treatments for acne scarring. They work by removing the top layer of dead skin and  revealing new, fresh and radiant skin underneath. Both treatments help clients get rid of unsightly acne scars, fine lines, uneven skin tones and blocked pores.

Facial Peels & Microdermabrasion Treatments For Men - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Now more than ever before, there's an increasing pressure on men to look good. In the past, men would tend to look the way they did, accept what they had and then just suffer in silence, but these days it's a lot easier for men to look after their skin and look the best they can, just the same as women do.

Typically, men aren’t used to practicing regular skin care routines from an early age as women are, and this poor skin hygiene can lead to dead cells forming on men’s skin which gives their facial complexion a very dull look. It seems that men often feel that they don't need to look after their skin in the same way that women do, and while men usually have different needs for their skin than women do, they shouldn't neglect the skin altogether, and ideally should develop a routine to keep the skin as healthy as they can.

When we think of anti-ageing treatments, our first thought is usually of women's treatments and products. Adverts for cosmetic facial procedures are typically aimed at women and always seem to use female models to advertise the products. These days however, there's a growing number of men, who show a greater interest in how they look, and in the state of their skin and are they are
now willing to do something about it.

Popularity of chemical peels for men has grown steadily in recent years, and the ‘man peel’ is now a regular feature in skin care regime of many men.

Facial peels create smoother-looking skin by removing dead skin cells from the skin's surface, and letting new, healthy cells to grow back. The treatment also helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, mild acne scarring, enlarged pores, brown spots, ingrown hairs and as well as all this, they also give a smoother texture to the skin. Technically, the treatment for men is the same as the treatment for women, however, the peels for men target different areas. Facial treatments for men are particularly effective for those who shave, as regular shaving can cause irritations on the face.

It's thought that in the past, men haven't been as meticulous as women with their skin care routines, so microdermabrasion treatment might just prove to be a revelation to them, as chemical peels help rejuvenate skin on the chest, neck, hands, forearms, as well as the face. Men might enjoy looking manly and rugged, but rough, pitted, wrinkled or blemished skin isn't really the image men want to show off.

Microdermabrasion is an exfoliation treatment which buffs away the top layer of skin, dislodging the dead skin cells, leaving you with a fresh and rejuvenated look. At Selston Cosmetic Clinic, our medical grade microdermabrasion machine offers the latest treatment, from mild exfoliation to deeper medical treatments. The treatment uses a light mist of crystals, to gently and painlessly dislodge dead and dull cells from the top layer of the skin and at the same time a vacuum suction removes them, resulting in smooth and glowing skin.

Chemical Peel for Rejuvenated Skin - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

It's well known that the winter months aren't kind to our skin. Whether it's being out in the harsh, wet, cold weather or spending most of our time indoors with the central heating drying out our skin. The truth is that come the Spring, our skin is definitely in need of a boost!

A lot of skin problems are associated with a build up of dead skin cells, which can make skin look dull with clogged up pores. Skin Peels offer a great way to treat and improve ageing skin, acne, sun damage and the skin's irregular pigmentation. With a short course of treatments, it can also help the skin to appear smoother, brighter and vastly improve the texture and colour of the skin.

This is where the Selston Cosmetic Clinic can come to your aid!
We offer revolutionary medical skin peels which are non-irritating, pain free and do not cause skin shedding or redness, which other, harsher chemical peels are usually associated with. These chemical peels have now become increasingly popular, giving fantastic results as seen on television programmes such as "10 Years Younger."

Treatment using chemical peels can:
  • Reduce fine lines from under the eyes and around the mouth
  • Treat wrinkles which are caused by sun damage and ageing
  • Improve the appearance of mild scars
  • Treat active acne
  • Reduce age spots, freckles and irregular pigmentation
  • Improve the look and texture of the skin

A chemical peel is a non-surgical procedure, with the aim being to enhance and rejuvenate the facial appearance, giving you smoother, softer, blemish free skin.

Why have chemical facial peels?

Over time, your skin can gradually appear dull and lifeless, which maybe caused by dead skin cells that accumulate and clog up your skin. Chemical facial peels will remove the dead skin cells from the surface of the skin to allow new healthy skin cells to grow back, which will create smoother looking skin.

The benefits of chemical skin peels:
  • The treatment is pain free
  • There is no skin shredding, no skin flaking, no irritation and no redness
  • Promotes growth of new skin, collagen and elastin, which thickens the skin and improves resistance to the effects of ageing
  • Skin peels make your face fresh and youthful and improves skin texture and tone
  • Suitable for all skin types (light to dark skin)
Dr Bassi at the Selston Cosmetic Clinic has over 10 years experience in the cosmetic industry and has performed numerous chemical peels. The doctor will examine your skin, discuss your requirements and recommend a treatment plan specific for you.

The procedure takes about 45 minutes and you can return to normal activities immediately following treatment. The treatment course consists of 6 treatments, each 4 weeks apart. Most clients see an improvement after their first treatment.

Peel away that winter skin and look forward to a bright, glowing Spring!
