Microdermabrasion Treatments For A Smoother, Healthier Skin - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

At Selston Cosmetic Clinic, treatments such as microdermabrasion and medical microdermabrasion are used for mild exfoliation to deeper medical treatments, to reduce wrinkles, fine lines, mild acne scars and they can also help to unclog and minimise the pores. The treatment can lessen age spots, hyperpigmentation and superficial sun damage.

Exfoliation leaves your skin in fantastic condition and is an important part of your skin care regime. It takes away all the old, dead skin cells, leaving your skin looking fresh and bright.

Pigmentation before and after microdermabrasion treatment

When we are exfoliating our skin, there are some things we should, and shouldn't do;
  • Many people exfoliate every day, thinking it will leave them with a clearer skin, but in fact over-exfoliating can damage healthy skin cells, leaving the skin irritated, dry and red. Exfoliating twice a week is enough to keep your complexion looking bright.
  • Use a good quality exfoliator with active ingredients which encourage cell turnover. This will help to take off any dull and dead skin cells and help to keep the pores unclogged and clear, leaving you with a brighter complexion.
  • A professional exfoliation treatment such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion can penetrate deeper into the skin than products used at home. The expert treatments will cause the dull, dead skin cells to turnover faster and can also treat a great number of skin concerns.
  • Don't exfoliate irritated skin. It's important that you don't damage the skin’s barrier, so if exfoliating has caused skin irritation or made the skin over-sensitive, then you should stop exfoliating. Once the skin has returned to normal, then you can introduce exfoliation back into your skin care regime.

Different products may work better for you than others, depending on your what your skin type is and what skin concerns you have. Find out your skin type to find out which exfoliator is best for you.
The microdermabrasion treatment uses a light mist of crystals on the upper layer of the skin, which will gently and painlessly dislodge the dead and dull cells, whilst its vacuum suction simultaneously removes both the crystals and dead cells. This results in a polished, smooth and glowing skin.

Microdermabrasion improves;
  • Blotchy, uneven skin tones
  • Dull lifeless skin
  • Enlarged pores/blemishes
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damaged skin/age spots
  • Acne scarring
  • Blackheads and white heads
Microdermabrasion treatment can help you improve any skin conditions or imperfections such as; fine lines, mild acne scars, enlarged pores, oily or dull skin, and reduce blackheads and pigmentation. Microdermabrasion gives fast and permanent results.

Remove Unwanted Facial Hair With Laser Treatment - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

We go to great lengths taking care of our skin; by cleansing, toning, exfoliating and moisturising, then we spend lots of time applying expensive makeup, only to realise that unsightly facial hair is visible for everyone to see. Unwanted hair on the face is a common problem that affects lots of women, and there are a few things that cause this to happen. It could be hereditary or maybe because of your ethnic heritage. There are those who have excessive facial hair because of medical conditions or it could even be due to hormonal changes associated with the menopause.

Facial hair can appear on different areas of the face including;
  • Lip
  • Chin
  • Jawline
  • Sideburns
  • Eyebrows

Facial hair that's excessive, unsightly or unwanted is a cause for concern for most women and can lead to low self-esteem. Although it's common, unwanted female facial hair can cause embarrassment to women and really affect their self-confidence. Removing the hair is the best solution, although you may find that waxing and plucking facial hair can become irritating and painful, but if you’re not happy with shaving, plucking, or waxing, then laser hair removal is worth considering as an alternative option, as it offers long-term results.

Remedies and treatments include;
  1. Using shaving, waxing, threading and plucking techniques are time-consuming and temporary.
  2. Electrolysis permanently removes hair by using heat, but it's an extremely slow and painful method and could leave behind some signs of scarring.
  3. Reducing the growth of unwanted facial hair using medicated creams can also be used, although side-effects such as skin rashes and irritation may occur with this method.
  4. Another healthy remedy that can help to reduce unwanted hair is weight loss. There are some women who have noticed unnecessary facial hair growth appear because they are overweight and losing excess weight will help with facial hair reduction.
  5. Long lasting results can now be obtained with laser hair removal. This treatment is a better alternative, as small and large areas can easily be treated quickly and effectively, compared to other methods.

Taking away facial hair with laser treatment is a quick procedure that gives great results. The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser energy and then this energy is converted to heat, causing thermal damage to the follicle without causing any harm to the surrounding skin, and this stops the hair growing in the damaged follicle.

With laser treatment, there's only minimal discomfort, usually just a minor stinging sensation to the skin upon application of the laser pulses, but topical anaesthetic cream makes any treatment more comfortable.

Botox Injections For A Fresher Looking Face - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Facial expressions using the same muscles repeatedly over time, will eventually leave crow’s feet, frown lines and forehead creases upon the skin. Botox injections temporarily weakens the muscles that help to create your facial expressions, and lessening this muscle activity will soften the fine lines and wrinkles, but it will also affect the expressions you use on your face.

As we mature, wrinkle lines may start to appear around the forehead, creating frown lines between the brows which can make us look serious or angry. These signs of ageing can easily be treated with botox. Injections of botox are a quick treatment, with the results beginning to show after a few days and gradually develop within two weeks.

Botox is a reputable cosmetic procedure which visibly reduces lines and wrinkles or removes them completely. It's a temporary treatment lasting around 4 months and will need regular top-up injections to keep up the results.

The benefits of botox:
  • The speed - Botox is typically administered by the practitioner in around 10-20 minutes and the results might be noticeable immediately after the treatment, but it will take a couple of days to settle.
  • Minimally invasive - Botox injections are less invasive than other anti-ageing treatments such as face or brow lifts.
  • The price - For many clients the cost of botox is more attractive than other cosmetic or plastic surgery procedures.
  • Minimal side effects - Like any cosmetic or medical procedure, there are side effects associated with botox; such as redness, itching or bruising, but these occur very occasionally and are temporary.
Botox is an ideal treatment for those who want subtle, non-surgical, anti-ageing treatments. A topical aesthetic gets applied to the skin to make sure the procedure is as comfortable as possible. Botox is then administered into the specific targeted areas, reducing lines and the halting further wrinkles from beginning.

So, where should you get your botox? With any injectable cosmetic treatment, it's advisable that you get your procedure done by health care professionals, such as doctors, dentists or nurses, who have been correctly trained and use reputable and safe products. Before going for any treatment, you should do your research and check out the place where you're having your botox procedure, whether that's checking it out online, on Internet forums or by word of mouth.

The results of botox should look subtle. Dr Bassi at Selston Cosmetic Clinic, is fully trained in advanced botox technique, and performs careful and technical exact injections to give a fresh and healthy appearance, and not a startled and expressionless look. This results in a naturally smooth and healthy face, free from wrinkles. The effects after a botox treatment are not completely immediate, It starts to work within days, with the greatest effect seen around two weeks

Ageing Skin - Why & How It Ages - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

As they are always exposed, the face and hands are the first parts of our body to show signs of ageing. Whether they are facing the cold, wind and rain of winter or the heat of the sun in summer, all types of weather can affect the skin. And it's not just the weather; the pollution and car fumes in the towns can also play a part in ageing our skin.

Dermaroller treatment to rejuvenate skin

Lots of things accelerate the ageing process of the skin:

Stress - signs of stress can show up on your skin, hair and nails
Lack of sleep - those who sleep badly have more fine lines, uneven skin colour and slackening of skin.
Sun damage - the sun is responsible for most visible signs of skin ageing. UVA rays emitted by the sun can cause pigmentation, reduced skin elasticity through collagen and elastin breakdown and skin-texture quality.
Smoking - exposure to smoke, and even second-hand smoke, can cause damage to the elastin fibres causing sagging to the skin, age spots and lines and wrinkles around the mouth.
Pollution and the environment - can cause fine lines, dark circles under the eyes, dehydrated skin, which can leave the skin dry, rough and itchy, and the city dust and dirt clogging up the pores and making the skin look lifeless and dull.

Cheeks, jawline and chin refinement using dermal filler

As a result of normal ageing, one of the main things we notice, is loss of volume. As we age our  facial fat is generally lost, causing the soft tissues to become thinner. Collagen; the dense fibres for strength, and elastin; the elastic fibres for suppleness will become less firm and elastic as we get older, allowing the soft tissue in the face to sag. This results in the face looking thinner and facial bones looking more prominent.

Dermal filler to replace lost volume

  • The cheeks - there's less production of collagen and elastin meaning that the ageing skin is vulnerable to the effects of gravity and can sag, resulting in jowls and bags under the eyes.
  • The mouth -  laugh lines deepen and the fine lines that surround the lips, known as smokers lines appear, and we lose definition resulting in the dreaded lipstick bleed.
  • The eyes - upper and lower, begin to sag, creating dark circles and tear troughs.
  • Facial thread veins - The blood vessels in ageing thin skin are more likely to break, bruise or become permanently dilated, causing thread veins.
  • Age spots - this occurs when the pigment cells in the skin increase in certain areas and cluster together, resulting in sun spots, freckles or liver spots.
  • The forehead - gains wrinkles and furrows through repetitive facial expression movements, made over time.
  • The skin - generalised wrinkling of the face may occur because of thinning ageing skin, and reduced skin cell turnover will result in thinner crepe like skin. More mature skin, also has fewer sweat and oil glands, therefore it is prone to dryness.
At Selston Cosmetic Clinic we offer the latest cutting edge, safe and effective cosmetic medical treatments for anti-ageing of the skin. A little wrinkle, a bit of sagging or dark circle might be making you look older than you really are, but we've got an experienced and fully trained aesthetic team to help you choose from a variety of treatments, and recommend which treatment is suitable for your concerns.

Straighten A Bumpy Or Crooked Nose With Dermal Filler - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Lots of people dislike the shape of their nose, but unfortunately it's such a prominent feature on our face, and one that's difficult to hide. An uneven, bumpy nose can affect your self-esteem, especially when you have your photograph taken and especially when the photos show your face in profile.

The reasons we get a bumpy nose are either:

Genetic - A hook or a bumpy nose is one of many dominant traits that we might inherit from our parents, whether it's a nose that's large, hooked or bumpy, or a nose that just isn’t quite symmetrical.

Injury - A broken nose might not always heal properly and can leave you with a crooked nose. After a nasal trauma, the formation of calcium deposits and bone growth in the area might be injured, forming a dorsal bump, or make an existing bump seem even more prominent.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a procedure which involves reshaping or altering the nose, using injectable fillers. Sometimes known as liquid nose jobs, these non-surgical treatments involve strategically placed fillers which can change your nose's appearance if you're unhappy with the shape, or maybe you have an unattractive bump, depression or asymmetry.

Dermal filler treatment  is ideal for those who have:
  • A slightly crooked nose
  • A nose that needs building up
  • A hook shaped nose that needs straightening
  • A mild to moderate bump on the bridge of the nose
  • A mild to moderate drooping of nasal tip
  • Noses that need more height, definition and a nose tip

A dermal filler nose job can create a beautiful and desirable nose, which not only helps to shape and straighten the nose, but is also able to lift the tip. For the procedure, small amounts of dermal filler get injected just beneath the surface of the skin in precise locations, to straighten or change the shape of the nose, and they can even be inserted into the tip of the nose for an upturned appearance. There's no downtime needed after the procedure, and any minor bruising or redness usually goes away in a few days and can easily be covered by makeup.

Dermal fillers aren't permanent and over time will break down. The fillers stay in the body for about 9-12 months, so further treatment might be needed to keep up your desired appearance. Many of our clients pleasantly find their procedure at Selston Cosmetic Clinic a lot more comfortable than they expected. Our cosmetic doctor, Dr Bassi is a very experienced cosmetic practitioner and is highly skilled and precise - you couldn't be in safer hands.

PDO Thread Lift Treatment To Lift & Rejuvenate Your Face - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

As we get older our skin's elasticity loosens and we have a tendency to lose volume in various areas of our face. This can lead to wrinkles and sagging skin, with nose to mouth lines developing, resulting in jowls. If an invasive surgical facelift is not for you, then a non-surgical treatment is the solution. More of us are looking for treatments to lift and rejuvenate the face using non-invasive procedures and PDO thread lifts can deliver this and give you excellent results.

They are ideal to use on:
  • Sagging jowls
  • Eye bags
  • Drooping upper eyebrows

The procedure will lift your face at targeted points, stimulating ongoing collagen and elastin production, which will make your skin feel and look firmer. The treatment will smooth wrinkles, tighten your skin and define the jaw line, creating a gentle, rejuvenating lift and giving you natural-looking results. After a topical anaesthetic cream gets applied, a very fine needle will insert the threads into the areas that need lifting. The threads discreetly hold repositioned skin and facial tissue in place after the procedure, and as there aren't any cuts or incisions, there’s no scarring. The treatment takes 45-60 minutes.

The advantages of having PDO thread lift treatment include:
  • The results are instant
  • Improvement of skin's texture and tone
  • Increase of collagen production
  • No cuts or incisions
  • Skin tightening
  • There are no visible signs of the treatment
  • Minimal down time
  • The procedure has a high safety profile
  • The treatment is simple and relatively fast
PDO thread lifts treatment uses simple injections, placed just underneath the surface of the skin in strategic places, without making any cuts or incisions. They are special dissolvable threads, made from the same material as surgical sutures, which have been safely used in heart surgery for many years.

The threads are extremely versatile, and will give amazing results around the face and neck. They can treat vertical and horizontal wrinkles on the forehead, sagging brows, drooping cheeks, a saggy jaw line, neck folds and wrinkles on the chin.

When they're injected they create 3 effects:
  • They lift the skin
  • They'll tighten the skin by promoting collagen and elastin.
  • Smooth out the skin by promoting the formation of hyalauronic acid, which improves skin hydration/moisturisation.

The PDO thread lift procedure can treat either all of your face, or just partial areas, dependant on your needs and it will combine beautifully with dermal filler. Wrinkles will reduce and crepe like skin will look more youthful. The results deliver a naturally attractive, subtle lift, that will give a refreshed, rejuvenated youthful look.

Men Also Benefit From Botox & Dermal Fillers - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

First impressions count, and whether we like it or not the people we meet will make snap decisions about us based mostly on our looks, and looking the best we can, gives men and women a big boost in confidence. It isn't just women who want to look their best and these days men are also paying extra attention to their appearance. When it comes to getting older, we tend to think that men improve with age more than women, believing that men grow older in a distinguished silver-fox way.

Dermal filler treatment for tear trough hollows
Old age comes to us all, but whatever your age it's never too early to start looking after your skin and maintaining your appearance, and there are many products you can buy which promise to slow down or reverse the signs of ageing. Of course older, mature men can, and indeed do, look fantastic and sometimes that's because they've had a bit of help along the way. Anti-ageing treatments for men have become increasingly common place and the numbers of men having treatments are on the rise.

Botox treatment on forehead lines
The popularity for cosmetic procedures isn't just restricted to younger men; men of all ages are now seeking cosmetic treatments to improve their looks, slow down the signs of ageing and give them healthy looking skin. The number of men undergoing cosmetic treatments has dramatically risen in the last decade and some men now spend as much time caring for their appearance as their female counterparts.

Microdermabrasion treatment
Men have the same basic concerns about ageing as women. They want to soften the signs of ageing and look as good possible for their age, and at Selston Cosmetic Clinic we offer many subtle, undetectable treatments such as botox, dermal fillers and microdermabrasion.

Men seek anti-ageing treatments for certain things:

Lines and wrinkles. Botox can reduce and soften the wrinkles that give an angry or overly serious expression that are present, even on the relaxed face. Frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal lines on the forehead and crow’s feet can all benefit from botox injections.

A tired appearance. Men dislike looking tired despite getting adequate sleep. Bags, dark circles and hollows beneath the eyes (tear troughs) are particular concerns, which dermal fillers can rectify. Dermal fillers can also soften deep lines and furrows on the face.

Pigmentation. Age spots, mild scars, fine lines and sun damage are signs of ageing that can easily be treated with microdermabrasion, which can dramatically improve the skin’s texture and tone.

Vaser Lipo To Improve The Way You See Your Body - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Many of us are in an unfavourable relationship with our bodies. There's nothing worse than a friend tagging us in an unflattering photo on social media websites, or finding ourselves in a communal fitting room alongside a woman with a model-like figure. Lots of women feel insecure about their bodies, and in a world full of unrealistic, airbrushed beauty standards, it becomes very easy to look at ourselves and only see the ways in which we don't measure up.

Ladies tummy before and after vaser lipo
A recent survey found that 67% of people feel that they are overweight, and if we hate the way our body looks, then it's not hard to see why we don't feel good about ourselves. Innocent comments can make us sensitive about the way we see ourselves and also about how we perceive others who are judging us.

Buy and wear clothes that fit. Don't worry about label sizes, and if you need to try on the next size up - do it! Clothes that are ill-fitting or too tight will only make fat rolls and muffin tops bulge out of your clothes, making you look bigger than you really are. If you feel comfortable in what you are wearing, then you will feel more confident.

Things we should do :
  • We have to accept that all bodies come in different shapes and sizes.
  • Exercise is an important tool in maintaining a healthy body image, and at least 30 minutes a day will lower your body fat, and boost your self-esteem.
  • We might be our worst enemy. While we think we look fat and lumpy, other people may find us really attractive.
  • Eating healthily will help you maintain your weight, prevents disease, and boost your self-confidence.
  • Accept that it's normal for our weight and shape to fluctuate weekly and monthly.
  • Be kind to yourself. When looking in the mirror, focus on your good features and give yourself some compliments.
  • Remember that the people who truly love you; your parents, partner, friends and children, love you for you, and not for what you look like.
Things we shouldn't do :
  • You are much more than just a body, don't let your body shape define who, or what you are.
  • Don't let obsessions with your body stop you from getting closer to others, whether in friendships or relationships.
  • Judge others on the basis of their appearance, body size, or shape.
  • We shouldn't think that we are the only ones who have trouble accepting the way our body is, as many people struggle with this.
  • Don't believe that all thin people are happy with their bodies, we all dislike some part of our body.
Vaser lipo before and after
Sometimes, even after healthy eating and exercise we are left with small pockets of fat that won't shift. There are some people who don't mind having a bit of fat on their body, but if you do mind, then vaser lipo is a cosmetic treatment that can help you get the most out of your diet and exercise efforts. Vaser lipo procedures can give precision shaping on your body for a natural-looking result. It's a gentle treatment for removing excess fat, giving you instant results.

Always remember, we are all different. It would be very boring if we all looked exactly the same, and we must realize that everyone is beautiful, no matter what size or shape they are.

Re-shape Balance & Define The Face Using Dermal Fillers - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Loss of facial volume is one of the first changes that lead to an aged look on the face. The loss of volume may result from the natural ageing process, or you may notice it when you lose weight, although even those with athletic, slim bodies can experience diminished facial volume, resulting in facial hollows and loss of definition.

There are many techniques that can restore and then maintain facial volume, which will give a youthful, natural appearance. Dermal fillers offer a safe, non-invasive method of correcting volume loss, restoring facial balance, creating symmetry and improving the definition of facial features, such as the chin, under the eyes and cheeks.

Dermal filler used on the tear troughs

Dermal fillers can help :

Lip Enhancement - giving the lips more definition
Lip Augmentation - giving greater volume and a fuller appearance to your lips
Tear Troughs - adding volume and correcting the hollows under and around the eyes
Lip Creases - softening the depth of smokers lines around the mouth
Nasolabial Folds - softening or correcting the deep grooves between the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth
Cheek Enhancement - contouring and enhancing the cheeks, to create higher cheekbone
Jowls Correction - fillers can define the jaw line to create a more defined, attractive line
Marionette Lines - reduces lines that give you a turned down smile
Nose - used to straighten out bumps, lift the tip or improve your nose shape
Chin - filler can define and change the contours of your chin

Dermal filler treatment on the jowls
Everything on the body changes as we get older and the chin is no exception. You may have always been quite happy with the shape of your face, but as you have aged you may notice that your chin has decreased in size and that your jaw line has changed shape. However, dermal filler can easily be injected into the chin, making it seem more prominent or increase the definition. Most women want to have a softer contoured chin, while men prefer to have a more masculine chiselled chin.

Dermal fillers for chin augmentation can :
  • Improve facial balance of the forehead, nose and chin.
  • Improve the symmetry of the chin
  • Improve self-confidence
  • Give a defined, stronger jaw line to improve the appearance
  • Gently reshape a weak chin
  • Achieve a completely natural looking result
Re-shaping the chin using dermal filler will add definition, balance and symmetry to the chin using long-lasting dermal fillers in a non-surgical treatment. Placement of fillers will give small and under developed chins a more natural, fuller chin, restoring natural balance to the face.
