There are many things we can do as we age, to help keep us looking younger. The anti-ageing methods we use, fall somewhere between wrinkle cream and a face-lift... and let's face it, we'll try anything!

Creams and Serum

The makers of anti-ageing creams claim to be able to give you a face several decades younger, but which ones do we choose? The vast range of face creams, gels and serums that promise to keep us looking younger, are mind-blowing, especially the choice; anti-wrinkle, de-creasing, radiance, anti-ageing, age-defying, plumping up, mega-hydrating ... and on, and on. When using skin care products, there are certain ingredients you should look for;

Matrixyl - This skin-perfecting peptide stimulates collagen, restores elasticity and encourages skin repair.
Pro-Vitamin B5 - This ingredient can attract and hold on to moisture, leaving the skin supple and hydrated.
Retinol - this works by stimulating collagen production and increasing the turnover of skin cells.

Vitamin E - is moisturising, anti-inflammatory and can protect skin against sun damage.
Vitamin C - can help reduce inflammation, reverse sun damage and boost collagen production.

Sunscreen - A moisturiser with SPF 25 or higher is the best defence against wrinkles, dullness, brown spots and the loss of firmness.

Fake Tan
Get yourself a healthy glow. We all know that "real" sunbathing is ageing for the skin, but a subtle tan obtained by using either self tanning lotions and wipes, spray or fake tan, will give you a boost of confidence. Alternatively, a tinted moisturiser will give the skin a nice glow. There is no denying that tanned skin makes you look and feel younger, thinner and more beautiful.

Teeth Whitening
Nothing is more rejuvenating than a beautiful, white smile. It’s astounding how many years a decent smile can take off your face. People with stained and dull teeth tend not to smile because they are uncomfortable or embarrassed about their teeth. According to a recent study, having whiter teeth makes you look more successful, more employable, more attractive and at least five years younger.

Haircut and Colour
A good haircut can make you look ten years younger. We've all seen the make-over programmes on TV, where a new cut and colour instantly turns a frumpy mother into a yummy mummy! Every five years you need to reinvent yourself, not drastic major changes, just little tweaks. You can have the same basic hairstyle forever, but you do need to change it up a bit. There are plenty of changes you can make to instantly take years off your look. Maybe changing your parting, adding layers, having a fringe cut in or by choosing softer-coloured hair highlights.

Dermal Fillers
Fillers will add volume to the face by filling in the wrinkles and lines, and sometimes by plumping up areas of the face, giving your face a younger look. Area's like the cheeks, under-eye area and temples, that over time have lost volume, causing the skin to sink and sag are ideal places to fill. Small amounts of dermal filler get directly injected into the skin using a fine needle. No recovery time is needed after dermal filler treatment and you can return to usual activities straight away. Some slight swelling or bruising might be experienced at the injection area, but this doesn't usually last longer than 48 hours. Your doctor will discuss your recovery and what to expect when you attend your appointment.

Cheek Enhancement using Dermal Fillers

As we age, our skin loses collagen and fat which changes the facial contour. The cheeks can become hollow, and skin can sag and wrinkle, which results in a drawn and aged appearance. Non-surgical cheek enhancement is a process where dermal fillers are used to improve the appearance and shape of the cheek, without the need for surgery or cheek implants.

Pillow face, chipmunk cheeks and piggy eyes (where the eyes nearly disappear during a smile, or worse, without a smile, which happens when too much dermal filler is injected into the cheek area) are words used to describe faces that have been overfilled with fillers.

Increasing numbers of celebrities are now going for the plumped-up look, as opposed to the wind tunnel effect of a face-lift or the frozen Botox look.  Since it was realised that lifting sag and filling wrinkles wasn’t everything, and that volumizing made faces look younger, certain celebrities seem to have gone to town with the volume!  But it gets to the point where the face and cheeks look puffy and over-stuffed, hence the term pillow face. Which would suggest that restraint is vital!

Less is more, and patients should be really happy with the vast improvement fillers can achieve and be happy to just leave out that last little 10%. Over-filling is just not necessary.

20 minutes before the procedure a numbing cream is applied. The Radiesse dermal filler is then expertly injected into the appropriate nasal areas.
Other than some occasional minor bruising, there are generally no side effects from dermal filler treatments, so in most cases, the majority of patients people return to work the same day or following day after having a non-surgical nose job.

Lip Enhancement And Lip Augmentation Nottingham

This lady who travelled up from London had lip fillers at a Harley Street clinic but was not too impressed with the outcome. She wanted a more balanced look. 

By using a combination of lip enhancement and augmentation to the upper and lower lip a balanced look was obtained...making her lips look natural and lucious! The results below are after 1ml of Teosyl Kiss.

This following lady has with the aging process developed thin lips. The upper lip is assymetrical.

She has never had any lip filler treatment in the past.

She now has more fullness to her lips.

Mole Removal...London

Radiesse Dermal Filler - Full Facial Volumisation

Over the last few years my experience with using Radiesse has brought dramatic results to clients.

This dermal filler is very versatile and with the recent innovation of mixing Lignocaine anaesthetic with the product, has resulted in making the treatment a more comfortable experience.

I have been using it very successfully as an alternative to Sculptra; the advantage of Radiesse is that it gives instant results, as opposed to having to wait for 6 months plus for Sculptra to work.

Full facial volumisation is for clients who have lost volume in their cheeks, mid-face, have deep grooves in their nose/mouth and deep marionette lines (lines between lips/chin). Correction has to be made to all these areas using Radiesse dermal filler.

Our client range for this treatment is around the 50+ range because of the ageing process or some of younger age who have lost a large amount of weight which is particularly showing on their face.

They usually have had no cosmetic intervention and suddenly realize after reading magazine articles, watching TV shows or researching the internet that something can be done to melt the years away.

In my experience around 6 syringes of 1.5cc Radiesse are required for full facial volumisation.
At Selston Cosmetic Clinic, full facial volumisation is competitively priced at £1500 for SIX 1.5cc syringes of Radiesse. Our normal price for a 1.5 cc Radiesse syringe is £300.

Dermal Fillers - Putting the Smile Back on Your Face

It is fascinating to see the transformation of a person who is having Dermal Fillers; it is also quite amazing to see this transformation happen instantly before your eyes.

Recently I observed Dr Bassi carrying out a cosmetic filler treatment on a client from Derby. The area being treated was the Nasolabial Folds (or "smile grooves"); these are the deep folds running down from the nose to the mouth that become more and more prominent as we age.

After a small anesthetic block, Dr Bassi injected the Juvederm Ultra dermal filler into the folds. As he worked you could see the years fading away and a more youthful face emerging.

At the end of this anti-aging procedure, the client was offered a mirror to see the result and their face lit up with delight as they saw the younger looking reflection staring back at them. As the doctor continued to give the client advice for the coming couple of weeks, their smile broadened with the knowledge that the final result would be even smoother.
