Replace Lost Volume and Enhance the Cheeks - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

We tend to lose volume from our face as we get older and the most common place this happens is in the cheeks. The volume goes from the cheeks, causing a flattening of the mid face and this loss of fat can also exaggerate the nasolabial folds. Ageing is a gradual thing, and because we see ourselves in the mirror every day we don't notice all the little changes happening. It's when we look at old photo's and compare the changes, or maybe we notice ageing signs on other people we haven't seen for a while.

As well as wrinkles, with ageing, we also develop sagging and hollows. Our collagen production slows down so the skin is no longer as thick and firm as it was, which can stop us looking our best. A couple of things can cause the face to deflate with age; the structure of the skeleton thins, making the cheekbones recede and get smaller and the medial fat pads thin out and gravity pulls them downwards.

You can do everything right for your body with diet and exercise, but in the long-term, your face might not thank you for it. It's the fat that gives the face its youthful look, and having high cheekbones is a sign of youth and beauty. It seems that being thin is the goal of most people, but when it comes your face, thin can make you look older.

Some people often get called baby-faced, and this usually means they have the smooth, rounder cheeks that we see on babies. Lots of us spend our teens and our twenties trying to lose our facial fat to get defined cheekbones, but by the time we reach our middle-age years, a skinny face can sadly look like an old face. The truth is that round, full faces, tend to look younger.

Facial fat is lost gradually over the years, but a massive weight loss will often show a dramatic change in the face. Dermal filler treatment to enhance the cheeks are an effective treatment that will instantly add volume to your cheeks, giving an instant, more youthful appearance.

Cheek augmentation is a popular treatment choice for those with flattened cheekbones or for those who have volume loss around the cheeks. It's a minimally invasive procedure, is almost painless and needs no downtime, although you may experience slight swelling or potential bruising but you can return to work after your treatment.

Enhance Your Face Using Dermal Filler Treatment - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Anti-ageing treatments for the face are very popular, and dermal filler procedures are one of the most requested at cosmetic clinics. Dermal fillers are an ideal option for those who want to regain their youthful features, improve their facial contours and reduce deep wrinkles. This versatile injectable procedure can plump up, add volume and lift the skin, leaving it smooth, contoured and looking younger.

Our skin stays plump due to the high content of water. The main constituent of dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that's naturally present in the body, which absorbs moisture and keeps the skin hydrated. If you want to keep your face looking plump, soft and with fewer lines, it's important that your skin stays hydrated.

Jawline refining with dermal filler

Ways to check your skin's hydration:
  • One way to check your skin’s hydration levels is to gently pinch the skin beneath your eyes and release. How quickly it plumps back up, indicates how hydrated and elastic your skin is and the faster it snaps back shows the healthier skin quality.
  • Likewise, if you pinch your cheeks and it leaves fine lines, this shows that your skin might be dehydrated or have reduced elasticity.
  • You can check the skin around your mouth by puckering up as if you are going to give a kiss, and if fine lines remain once you have released the pout, this could mean less hydration in the skin.
A doctor injects filler under the skin with a fine needle. The procedure is almost painless and any side effects; such as slight redness, mild swelling and tenderness, are minimal. The treatment can last from 20 minutes to an hour, all depending on what areas you're having done. There's no downtime or recovery needed and you can to return to your daily activities straight away.
Dermal fillers benefit:
  • The face - as anti-ageing treatments, they soften creases, lines and wrinkles and plump up the skin
  • The lips - fillers can reshape, redefine, rejuvenate and rehydrate, giving us a perfect pout
  • The cheekbones - restoring facial volume can drastically improve sunken cheeks
  • Jawline and chin - they can easily be broadened, re-built and re-shaped using fillers
  • Eyes - dermal fillers can fill in the under eye hollows during tear trough treatment
  • Overall - when used together, fillers and botox can achieve a non-surgical face lift
  • Scars - fillers can improve recessed scars
  • Hands - the skin on the hands can look rejuvenated and rehydrated with filler treatment
Dermal fillers used on the nasolabial and marionette lines

Static wrinkles that are visible on a resting face without expression, are ideal for dermal filler treatment. Deflated and sunken areas of the face caused by loss of volume, and can easily be restored using dermal fillers.

Tear Troughs - Fill In The Hollows Under The Eyes - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Dark circles under the eyes is a common problem. As we get older, we lose fat pads from underneath the eyes, and this causes eye bags, dark circles, puffiness and a hollowness that causes us to look tired and drawn. This loss of volume and laxity of the lower eyelid skin is often called the tear trough, and it can have the adverse effect of making us seem older than we are, which isn't great for our self-confidence.

In our youth, the fat in our face is distributed evenly, with some pockets plumping up the cheeks, forehead, temples and areas around the eyes and mouth. As we age, that fat loses volume and shifts downward, making the features that were once rounded, start to sink, meaning that other parts of the face gain some fat, so we tend to get baggy around the chin and jowly in the neck.

When we first meet someone, they look at our eyes, and we don't want them to just notice how tired and drawn we look. One of the side effects of ageing, is the deepening of the hollows below your eyes, and this natural sign of ageing happens because; as we age, the soft tissue loses volume. Also, lifestyle factors like stress and lack of sleep can result in dark circles around your eyes.

Volume replacement in the under eye area can reshape the face. Dermal fillers are now used to eliminate the hollows you may have and by filling in these depressions it can take away your tired look and lighten the dark circles around the eyes. Tear trough treatment using dermal fillers is a non-surgical procedure that can restore your looks instantly. The filler gets injected under the skin using very fine needles, re-creating the plump, firm skin that your under eye area used to have.

Benefits of tear trough treatment:
  • Filler will banish under-eye bags
  • It will reduce wrinkles
  • Add volume to the under-eye area
  • Instant results that last 6-8 months
  • Treatment will leave you feeling and looking younger
At Selston Cosmetic Clinic your treatment is in the safe, capable hands of Dr. Bassi, who has many years experience of injecting dermal fillers. He has a trained eye for what looks good and what will suit your face. It's important to avoid an overdone and unnatural look, and in the hands of Dr. Bassi, you will get natural-looking results to make you look younger and more refreshed.

Acheive Younger Smoother Skin With Dermal Fillers - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Our skin is one of our best assets when it comes to beauty. A healthy taut skin, equals a younger-looking appearance and when we're young, our skin is more elastic and resilient, which is mostly thanks to collagen. Collagen keeps the skin intact and hydrated which makes it elastic, but as we age, the skin weakens and loses the elasticity. This affects your facial expressions, and you'll find that the skin will sag, and it will develop wrinkles and frown-lines.

Before & after dermal filler treatment for tear troughs

A lot of the visible signs of ageing is down to volume loss. When facial tissues lose volume, the cheeks start to look hollow and lines can become etched around the nose and mouth. As we mature, we naturally lose subcutaneous fat in our faces, making our smile lines, frown lines and crow’s feet become more apparent as the facial muscles are working closer to the skin's surface.

Dermal fillers work by boosting the skin’s own supply of hyaluronic acid. Dermal fillers revitalise and add volume to the skin, instantly diminishing the lines and wrinkles and giving a softer natural look. Dermal fillers are a soft injectable gel, consisting of hyaluronic acid which is tissue-friendly and closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that exists naturally in the body. It's long-lasting but not permanent.

We use Dermal fillers to:
  • Diminish vertical lip lines
  • Fill in hollow tear troughs
  • Enhance & restore volume to sunken cheeks
  • Plump & enhance the lips
  • Soften facial wrinkles
  • Plump out facial creases

We inject the filler into the skin in tiny amounts, with a very fine needle. The gel filler produces volume under the skin, lifting up the wrinkles or folds, which results in smooth looking skin. The treatment is quick and easy, and the actual procedure takes around 20 - 60 minutes, depending on the treatment required. Straight after your treatment, you will have slight redness, mild swelling and tenderness, but these effects are temporary.

Treat Wrinkles & Sunken Cheeks with Dermal Filler - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

The older we get, the greater the possibility that age will catch up with us and begin to show on our face. Once we reach our 50's there's a good chance that we'll have wrinkles and our cheeks will begin to look as though they're going to slide down our face. So, what are our options?

Face lift - A face lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure used to remove visible signs of ageing. It's invasive surgery usually performed with a general anaesthetic. A face lift tends to work better for the lower face, particularly the jaw line and neck.

Facial exercises - These are a great way to keep the wrinkles in check and tightening up the facial muscles. If you do facial exercises for just ten minutes a day, it will make a huge difference to your face. Simple exercises will strengthen a jaw line, help with a sagging neck and double chin, eyes, cheeks and forehead. You'll start to notice the results after a few weeks and the longer you do the exercises, the tighter your muscles become.

Nose to Mouth Grooves
Dermal fillers - are ideal for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles. They get injected into the face, plumping the hollows that can make a face look older than it is. A few syringes of dermal filler, can lift up the cheeks, which also gives a lifting effect on the jaw line and adds volume, restores shape and gives a fuller, fresher appearance.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the body. It holds water, which hydrates and gives volume to the skin, but sadly, hyaluronic acid diminishes in production as we age. Dermal filler treatment involves injecting hyaluronic acid through a very thin needle. Any discomfort is minimal the treatment itself is quick and the results of the treatment are noticeable straight away. As with any injectable treatment, there may be some slight bruising or swelling but this shouldn't last longer than a day, and can easily be covered up with make up.

Jowl lift
A dermal filler procedure is a popular treatment which helps to 'fill out' and smooth away troublesome:
  • Nose to Mouth Grooves.
  • Forehead Lines.
  • Frown Furrows.
  • Lips and lipstick Lines.
  • Acne Pits.
  • Crows Feet.
  • Facial volumisation.
  • Sunken Cheeks.
  • Shaping the facial contours.
Before and after cheek filler treatment
At Selston Cosmetic Clinic we have many satisfied clients returning to us for dermal fillers, as they give instant dramatic results, are popularly used and give an instant face lift!

It's a great alternative for those who don't wish to go under the knife, and for those who just want to look the best they can for their age! Dr. Bassi performs dermal filler treatments every day, with excellent results.

Ways to Keep your Face Looking Younger for Longer - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

You can't stop your face from getting older, and it's hard when you see the noticeable signs of ageing when you look at yourself in the mirror. Whether it's the little wrinkles around your eyes or lips, or maybe age or pigmentation spots, you can soften the effects ageing with non-surgical cosmetic procedures.

Botox treatment for fine lines and wrinkles

Although there are obvious causes of premature ageing, there are also many common things that are less obvious, which over time can take a toll on the skin and add years to your face. While many of these tips might seem like common sense, following them will help your skin stay younger, for longer. It's never too soon to start looking after your skin.

Wear sun cream
Exposure to the sun is the number one reason for skin ageing. Over time it damages the skin, causing wrinkles, loss of elasticity, visible blood vessels, hyperpigmentation and even skin cancer. Even if you aren't sunbathing you should still protect your skin by wearing sun cream every day.
Not doing so can result in:
  • The loss of elasticity in the skin.
  • Translucent, thinner looking skin.
  • Wrinkles and fine lines.
  • Leathery, dryer, rough skin.
  • Liver spots on the face, back of hands, arms, and body.
  • Skin Cancer.
  • Broken veins and capillaries on the face.

Laser treatment can takeaway broken veins on the face

Don't pick your spots!
Given the amount of germs and bacteria that's under the nails and on your hands, it's just not sanitary to touch and pick at your pimples. Picking at them can cause breakouts and even make existing spots worse. You shouldn't be picking at your zits, ingrown hairs, blackheads or anything else on your face. It can have permanent effects and even leave scars.

Anti-ageing skin care.
Cleanse: Gently wash your face both morning and night, but avoid cleansers that have high alcohol content and other drying agents._
Exfoliate: As dead cells accumulate, the complexion becomes dull and uneven, so exfoliate your skin weekly, using a gentle facial scrub which will keep the skin smooth, healthy and fresh.
Moisturise: Apply moisturiser over your face twice a day, not forgetting to treat the neck and the backs of your hands. Dry, ageing skin loses its elasticity, and this is when wrinkles begin to form.

Don't sleep with your make-up on!
It's said that a third of women at least twice a week, go to bed without removing their make-up, admit it, we've all done it! Make-up becomes clogged in the pores, making them look larger and resulting in a decline in the collagen, making the skin less supple. Leaving make-up on through the night results in an overgrowth of bacteria on your face, causing acne and giving the skin an unhealthy look.

Do not share make-up.
Sharing make-up is not a good idea. You risk catching infections when sharing someone else's make-up. Sharing mascara brushes can pass on eye infections, and using second-hand lipstick and chap sticks can spread viruses, like cold sores.

At Selston Cosmetic Clinic we offer non-surgical cosmetic treatment for the face, and with so many years experience we understand the many reasons why people come to us for help. Dr. Bassi knows that the point of good cosmetic procedures isn't to make someone look totally different, but to make subtle changes, making you look fresher, giving you clearer, younger looking skin and leaving you feeling confident and happy with your appearance.

We offer non-surgical cosmetic treatments such as botox, to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, lip augmentation and fillers to plump up your lips, laser treatment to remove blemishes, moles and thread veins and derma roller and chemical peels to smooth the surface of your skin. We offer a variety of cosmetic procedures for the face, why not book in for a free consultation to find out more and see how we can help.

Dermal Fillers to Plump Out Facial Lines & Grooves - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

When we think of filling in the lines on our face, the obvious answer is to have Botox. And whilst this is an excellent treatment for smoothing lines and wrinkles, it's fair to say, not everybody is comfortable with the idea of having Botox injected into their face, as they have visions of a frozen face that's unable to express any emotions (with a fully trained cosmetic practitioner this will not happen)

The best alternative to Botox is dermal fillers which are a great treatment for smoothing lines and wrinkles without paralysing your face into an expressionless mask. Dermal fillers can be used to fill out the face, to replace fat, and plump out areas that have lost volume and are beginning to look somewhat gaunt. They can also be used to fill in acne scars, change the shape of the chin or the tip of the nose.

Over time as we age, our skin loses hydration and this results in the loss of elasticity, forming lines and wrinkles and this gets more noticeable when we reach middle age. Dermal fillers can effectively treat areas, such as the eyes, neck and the back of the hands, which can, with age, develop finer lines and thinner crepey skin.

At Selston Cosmetic Clinic, we offer:
  • Cheek Enhancement -  will give the appearance of high cheekbones.
  • Lip Creases -  often called smokers lines, and filler will soften the depth of these, giving a youthful appearance of the mouth area.
  • Nasolabial Folds - Filler treatment can correct or soften the deep grooves between the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth.
  • Tear trough - This treatment corrects the hollow-eye look, giving a natural filled out appearance under the lower eyelids.
  • Jowls Correction -  You can get a smooth jaw-line by the precise placing of fillers.
  • Lip Enhancement (Lip filler) - Gives your lips better definition and helps to reduce lipstick bleed.
  • Lip Augmentation (Lip filler) - Will give greater volume and a fuller look to your lips.

Tear Troughs before and after dermal filler.

Depending on the areas being treated, the procedure normally takes 20-40 minutes and you can resume normal activities the same day. The procedure might feel uncomfortable, so we can apply a topical anaesthetic before the procedure. Usually, clients only need one dermal filler treatment to achieve their desired results, which last between 8-12 months, although some people choose to have occasional top-ups to keep up the look. While there might be a little swelling or redness, but this can easily be covered up by make-up.

At Selston Cosmetic Clinic we have many satisfied clients who regularly return to us for dermal fillers as they give instant dramatic results. Dermal filler results are immediate - so you don't have to wait for weeks to see how the procedure has turned out. There might be slight bleeding where the needle enters the skin, or slight swelling or redness in the treated area, although this will go down very quickly.

Anti-Ageing Methods and Dermal Fillers - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

There are many things we can do as we age, to help keep us looking younger. The anti-ageing methods we use, fall somewhere between wrinkle cream and a face-lift... and let's face it, we'll try anything!

Creams and Serum
The makers of anti-ageing creams claim to be able to give you a face several decades younger, but which ones do we choose? The vast range of face creams, gels and serums that promise to keep us looking younger, are mind-blowing, especially the choice; anti-wrinkle, de-creasing, radiance, anti-ageing, age-defying, plumping up, mega-hydrating ... and on, and on. When using skin care products, there are certain ingredients you should look for;
Matrixyl - This skin-perfecting peptide stimulates collagen, restores elasticity and encourages skin repair.
Pro-Vitamin B5 - This ingredient can attract and hold on to moisture, leaving the skin supple and hydrated.
Retinol - this works by stimulating collagen production and increasing the turnover of skin cells.
Vitamin E - is moisturising, anti-inflammatory and can protect skin against sun damage.
Vitamin C - can help reduce inflammation, reverse sun damage and boost collagen production.
Sunscreen - A moisturiser with SPF 25 or higher is the best defence against wrinkles, dullness, brown spots and the loss of firmness.

Fake Tan
Get yourself a healthy glow. We all know that "real" sunbathing is ageing for the skin, but a subtle tan obtained by using either self tanning lotions and wipes, spray or fake tan, will give you a boost of confidence. Alternatively, a tinted moisturiser will give the skin a nice glow. There is no denying that tanned skin makes you look and feel younger, thinner and more beautiful.

Teeth Whitening
Nothing is more rejuvenating than a beautiful, white smile. It’s astounding how many years a decent smile can take off your face. People with stained and dull teeth tend not to smile because they are uncomfortable or embarrassed about their teeth. According to a recent study, having whiter teeth makes you look more successful, more employable, more attractive and at least five years younger.

Haircut and Colour
A good haircut can make you look ten years younger. We've all seen the make-over programmes on TV, where a new cut and colour instantly turns a frumpy mother into a yummy mummy! Every five years you need to reinvent yourself, not drastic major changes, just little tweaks. You can have the same basic hairstyle forever, but you do need to change it up a bit. There are plenty of changes you can make to instantly take years off your look. Maybe changing your parting, adding layers, having a fringe cut in or by choosing softer-coloured hair highlights.

Dermal Fillers
Fillers will add volume to the face by filling in the wrinkles and lines, and sometimes by plumping up areas of the face, giving your face a younger look. Area's like the cheeks, under-eye area and temples, that over time have lost volume, causing the skin to sink and sag are ideal places to fill. Small amounts of dermal filler get directly injected into the skin using a fine needle. No recovery time is needed after dermal filler treatment and you can return to usual activities straight away. Some slight swelling or bruising might be experienced at the injection area, but this doesn't usually last longer than 48 hours. Your doctor will discuss your recovery and what to expect when you attend your appointment.

Under-eye area  (Tear Troughs) before and after dermal filler treatment

We should always aim for subtle results, leaving our friends and family believing that we are simply just looking our best! Dermal fillers really are like a mini face lift!

Correct Nasolabial Folds or Laugh Lines with Dermal Fillers - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

The nasolabial folds are natural facial contours which are commonly known as smile lines or laugh lines. They can either be relatively fine, just a fine wrinkle or become a deep fold, to the point that the skin above seems to hang over it. They are the two folds of skin that run from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth. A nasolabial fold is part of our normal anatomy and they can develop at any age and in fact, many of us grow up with a slight hint of laugh lines, but with time, the fold can seem deeper as our skin loses volume as we get older.  We lose the elasticity in the skin and facial muscles weaken as we age, making this area one of the first places to sag.

Facial expressions are a huge part of life, so the more mobile the expressions we use when we smile or laugh, the greater chance that deeper laugh lines will develop at a younger age. People often feel that laugh lines gives their face a fatigued or drawn appearance and when these lines become more pronounced, this is when they become a problem for some people.

There are several ways to reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds from topical treatments, to more invasive courses of action.

Creams and Serums
Most of these creams contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid which improves the way the skin retains moisture, tretinoin, which slows the breakdown of collagen and exfoliants, which help remove dead skin cells. Using topical creams and serums may only be a short-term solution.

Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers offer the most effective non-surgical method for treating these lines. Non-permanent dermal fillers present a non-invasive and cost-effective means of treatment, with very little downtime.

Cosmetic Surgery
A face lift is an expensive but long-term solution for reducing the appearance of nasolabial folds, it is a decision that shouldn't be taken lightly. A face lift can reduce laugh lines, as the tightening of the skin makes the folds shallower and less noticeable.

Losing weight can exacerbate nasolabial folds, as visible lines around the mouth tend to show up more on thinner people. Dermal fillers are used to successfully put volume back into areas that have lost volume, most often as a result of ageing, and will significantly reduce or remove nasolabial folds which can make the face look older and tired.
At the Selston Cosmetic Clinic we have great success in treating nasolabial folds with dermal fillers.

We recommend any of the following dermal fillers:
  • Restylane range
  • Radiesse
  • Juvederm Ultra
The treatment take usually takes 30 - 45 minutes and a local anaesthetic injection is usually given to minimise any potential discomfort. Downtime is minimal and you can go back to work the next day. The results are immediate and last up to 12 months.

Correction or softening of these folds gives you a youthful fresher look and the results that can be achieved using dermal fillers are stunning and natural looking.

Cheek Lift for High Cheeks & Facial Volume - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Spring is the time for renewal and change, which makes it the best time to sort out your facial issues. Full cheeks and high cheekbones are one of the signs of a youthful face, so, after a long winter, how nice would it be to look and feel refreshed by restoring the face's lost volume. Sagging and sunken cheeks can have a huge impact on the rest of the face. Over time everything seems to shift downwards and the face can start to look permanently drawn, unhappy and tired.

Cheeks and cheekbones are an important part of facial beauty, as defined cheeks create balance, improve the profile, and give a youthful impression. Some people lose facial volume with age, while others have never had contoured cheeks, but both would like to achieve fullness and a lift to the cheeks to give a more youthful appearance.

It's a fact that in our youth our cheeks are rounder, smoother and have more volume. The reason for this is down to collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin, as well as fat within the facial contours. These elements are lost as we grow older which means we lose the high cheeked look. With ageing our cheek bones look less pronounced and after the age of 30 the skin can lose 1% of its collagen and thickness. Dramatic weight loss, extensive exercising, stress and illness can all contribute to loss of fat in the face, leaving us with a gaunt, hollow-cheeked look.

One way to improve the structure of the face is by using dermal fillers as they are a great way to help restore volume. A cheek lift procedure involves injecting a dermal filler into the cheeks to replace lost volume, plump up the cheeks and help to lose the gaunt look that ageing brings about. Lifting the cheeks can give dramatic results, achieving a more youthful appearance, but doing so in a subtle way that makes it hard for others to put their finger on exactly what you've done that is different!

The ageing process can result in our upper cheeks becoming flat and saggy and it's the correction of these with dermal fillers which gives you a 'cheek lift' . This treatment instantly restores your face, giving it a youthful appearance by plumping up the apples of the cheeks and sculpting the cheek bones. Cheek enhancement is one of the most common treatments requested at the Selston Cosmetic Clinic and we have many clients returning for repeat treatments.

With over 10 years experience as a specialist cosmetic practitioner, Dr Bassi has performed thousands of injectable treatments and tailors his facial filler and remodelling treatment to each patient, to help them look and feel their best. A local anaesthetic is used to numb the area and the procedure takes about 20-30 minutes and you can go back to work the following day. The results are immediate and last between 9-12 months.

Call the Selston Cosmetic Clinic for a free consultation and we will help you retrieve that lost volume, after all, plump, full, high cheeks are the hallmark of a beautiful face.
