Rosacea - Facial Redness Flushing & Blushing - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Rosacea is one of the most common skin disorders, with a characteristic flushing that comes and goes. It mainly affects the face, causing persistent redness and one of the first signs of rosacea is the tendency to flush or blush easily. The condition causes dilated capillaries, resulting in general redness and well-defined blood vessels. The blood vessels covering these areas enlarge and dilate, producing facial thread veins, also called telangiectasia

Pimples that appear on and around the nose, forehead, cheekbones, and chin can resemble teenage acne and this is known as acne rosacea. Pimples can also occur on the neck, chest, scalp or ears. The inflamed pimples and redness of rosacea can look a great deal like acne but blackheads aren't usually present.

It's thought that rosacea might be genetic and those who suffer are likely to have someone in their family with rosacea. People of all colours can get rosacea, and it's said that women are three times more likely than men to get the disorder, particularly during the menopause. Hot flushes are one of the most common symptoms of menopause and some women find that this can also trigger rosacea for the first time, and unfortunately the symptoms can persist after the menopause is over.

Living with a skin condition can cause pain and embarrassment and be very uncomfortable for the person suffering. Those with skin disorders can experience emotional effects such as isolation, have self-esteem issues and sometimes even get depression.

Signs of Rosacea are :
  • Flushing - A lot of people with rosacea have a history of frequent blushing or flushing. This facial redness may come and go, and is often the earliest sign of the disorder.
  • Persistent Redness - Persistent facial redness is the most common sign of rosacea, and may resemble a blush or sunburn that does not go away.
  • Bumps and Pimples - Small red solid bumps or pus-filled pimples often develop. While these might look like acne, blackheads are absent and burning or stinging may occur.
  • Visible Blood Vessels - In many people with rosacea, small blood vessels (spider veins) become visible on the skin.

Rosacea - Facial Flushing & Redness - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

We all get some amount of facial flushing, which is a common skin condition called rosacea, but some get it more than others. Rosacea, affects one in ten people, and typically starts between the ages of 30 to 50, but it can start at any age. It usually begins with red flushes, and over time areas of the skin become consistently red. Sometimes the flushed skin might become a little lumpy with acne-like spots and tiny spidery thread veins may appear as time progresses, this is known as acne rosacea.

The areas most commonly affected are the nose, forehead and cheeks and is prevalent in those people with fairer skin. The delicate capillaries can stay dilated, resulting in permanent broken veins on the skin if they are left untreated. The visible symptoms are incredibly upsetting for sufferers, leading to a drop in self-confidence, while acute sufferers can experience much discomfort.

The specific cause for rosacea remains unidentified, but it's thought that certain elements can worsen the condition:
  • Stress
  • Hot drinks
  • Exposure to sunlight
  • Intense exercise
  • Caffine
  • Excessive Alcohol
  • Spicy foods
People who develop rosacea first start to notice a tendency to blush or flush easily, and this can progress to burning or stinging sensations, constant redness, spots and pimples and visible blood vessels appearing on the face. For some people, facial flushes can become a big problem which can really affect their self-confidence.

Rosacea is a frustrating skin condition which although it's not curable, it is manageable. Selston Cosmetic Clinic's laser treatment offers an effective therapy for this upsetting condition. The laser energies give excellent results, with a marked reduction in the flushing attacks of rosacea and leaving the skin's complexion a lot clearer.

Ways to help those with rosacea take care of their skin:
  • Try not to get overheated
  • When out in the wind and the cold, cover the face
  • Apply a high factor sunscreen every day for maximum protection from the sun
  • Hairspray can aggravate rosacea, so shield the face when you spray your hair
  • Keep your skin care routine simple, as too many products can irritate the skin
  • Use only gentle, unperfumed skin care products which are alcohol free
  • When washing, avoid scrubbing, rubbing, or massaging the face
  • Avoid exposure to strong sunlight.
  • It's advisable to stop smoking
  • Avoid spicy food, hot drinks and alcohol, as these can aggravate the flushing attacks

Treat the Facial Redness of Rosacea with Laser - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Rosacea is a chronic condition that affects the face, causing persistent redness and episodic flushing, initially starting with a tendency to blush easily. The condition causes dilated capillaries, resulting in general redness and well-defined blood vessels. The blood vessels covering these areas enlarge and dilate, producing facial thread veins, also called telangiectasia. Pimples can also occur on the face in rosacea, which resemble teenage acne, known as acne rosacea.

Symptoms often begins with flushing but other symptoms might be:
  • Burning and stinging sensations
  • Permanent redness
  • Pimples (papules and pustules)
  • Appearance of small blood vessels on the skin
Rosacea usually begins at any age over 30 and it shows as redness across the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead, tending to happen more often in women but be more severe in men. The face can embarrassingly become bright red and can cause the facial skin to feel sensitive, and can also burn or sting.
  1. Cleanse your face gently before applying your make-up. Find a cleanser that's best suited to your skin type, avoiding products with harsh chemicals. Try to choose only natural-based products that won't make any flare ups worse. After cleansing, gently pat your face dry with a soft towel, without rubbing your face too harshly.
  2. The fewer ingredients in your moisturiser the better and definitely fragrance free. Ultimately, you simply need a moisturiser that's gentle, rehydrates your skin and stops it from drying out.
  3. A primer will help your make-up sit nicely on your skin. A green-tinted primer, used only on the affected areas, can hide the redness before you apply your foundation.
  4. A good mineral-based foundation usually has fewer unwanted ingredients and will offer good coverage on your skin. Oil-based products might not hide the redness on your skin as effectively.
  5. When you apply your foundation, to avoid irritating your skin you should apply it with a make-up brush and not with your fingers. It's important that you clean your brushes after every use, especially when you suffer from a skin condition, such as rosacea, that's prone to flare-ups.
  6. You should choose your make-up carefully, as vibrant red lipsticks and bright eyeshadow will only magnify any remaining redness.

Rosacea Laser Treatment - Nottingham, Derby , Mansfield and Chesterfield.

Living with a skin condition can be painful. It is often progressive, embarrassing and uncomfortable for the sufferer. Many individuals with skin disorders experience emotional effects such as isolation, self-esteem issues and sometimes even depression.

Rosacea, or acne rosacea, is a skin disorder leading to redness and pimples on the nose, forehead, cheekbones, and chin. In some cases, rosacea may also occur on the neck, chest, scalp or ears. The inflamed pimples and redness of rosacea can look a great deal like acne but blackheads are almost never present. One of the first signs of rosacea is the tendency to flush or blush easily.

Rosacea is considered one of the most common skin disorders with a characteristic flushing that comes and goes. It is a condition in which certain facial blood vessels enlarge, giving the cheeks and nose a flushed appearance. It is a chronic and potentially life-disruptive disorder and is often characterized by flare-ups and remissions.

Rosacea can mimic other skin conditions, including acne and sunburn, earning it the nickname the great pretender. Celebrity sufferers of rosacea include Princess Diana, Prince's William and Harry, Cameron Diaz, Bill Clinton and Sam Smith.

Many have observed that the condition typically begins at any time between the ages of 30 and 50 and it is likely to affect people who have previously suffered from acne or severe acne.

Some people are more likely than others to get rosacea, but anyone can get this skin disease. There are strong signs that ethnicity is a factor in the potential to develop rosacea. People from Celtic or Scandinavian ancestry who have lighter skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes are particularly susceptible. Rosacea has often been called the "Curse of the Celts"

There is evidence to suggest that rosacea may be inherited and sufferers are likely to have someone in their family tree with rosacea. People of all colours can get rosaceaIt is said that women are three times more likely than men to get rosacea, particularly during the menopause. Hot flushes are one of the most common symptoms of menopause and some women find that they can also trigger rosacea for the first time. Unfortunately symptoms can persist after the menopause too.

Women, however, are not as likely as men to get severe rosacea.
Rosacea's effect on men shouldn’t be overlooked, especially in matters of the nose. In men, the nose is primarily affected and the nose may become large and disfigured (this is known as  Rhinophyma)

A lot of people with rosacea have a history of frequent blushing or flushing. This facial redness may come and go, and is often the earliest sign of the disorder.

Bumps and Pimples
Small red solid bumps or pus-filled pimples often develop. While these may resemble acne, blackheads are absent and burning or stinging may occur.
