Laser Treatment For Skin Pigmentation - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Pigmentation on our skin is a common and usually harmless condition, which occurs when patches of skin become darker in colour, causing an uneven skin tone. We'll start to notice that patches of skin such as freckles and age spots will often appear on the skin as we reach 40, as this is when our skin begins its true ageing process. As we age our skin is less able to repair sun damage, like it did when we were younger.

Pigmentation is a skin condition that occurs in people, usually due to an unhealthy or higher production of a pigment called melanin. Pigment decides the colour of our skin, hair and eyes and people with a darker skin tone will have more melanin in their skin cells than those with lighter skin, and if the skin cells become damaged or unhealthy, it will affect the melanin production, which in turn, will affect your skin. Higher production of melanin causes a number of skin problems, such as dark spots, dark patches, uneven skin tone, and dark circles.

Pigmentation can happen for many reasons: over exposure to the sun, genetics, hormonal changes, medical conditions or as a result of burns and it can also become more obvious as we get older, causing liver and age spots which if left untreated can worsen. Some pigmentation disorders just affect certain patches of skin, and while these patches aren't harmful, they can cause some distress.

Advanced laser technology can help resolve skin pigmentation problems, resurfacing the top layers of the skin and causing sun damage and pigmentation to disappear. It offers us a safe, effective and easy way to treat irregular pigmentation. Laser treatment works by damaging the top layers of the skin, forcing the collagen to kick in and start repairing the damage, so after a few weeks the skin will looker plumper and revitalised. The laser system resurfaces the skin and as the laser stimulates the collagen production, you'll see a continuous improvement in texture and smoothness of the skin over several months.

Most clients experience minimal discomfort, although some might experience a minor stinging sensation on the skin during the laser delivery, but a topical anaesthetic cream before the treatment begins will make it more comfortable. Afterwards, the skin on the treated areas will become darker, but this will flake off after a few days. You'll most likely be able to see an improvement in skin tone and texture as soon as the redness fades after the first treatment.

Depending on the size of the affected area, the treatment sessions can take between five to thirty minutes. A single treatment session will get the desired result, but sometimes two laser treatments may be needed, taken one month apart. The results of laser treatment are permanent.
