Treat the Facial Redness of Rosacea with Laser - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Rosacea is a chronic condition that affects the face, causing persistent redness and episodic flushing, initially starting with a tendency to blush easily. The condition causes dilated capillaries, resulting in general redness and well-defined blood vessels. The blood vessels covering these areas enlarge and dilate, producing facial thread veins, also called telangiectasia. Pimples can also occur on the face in rosacea, which resemble teenage acne, known as acne rosacea.

Symptoms often begins with flushing but other symptoms might be:
  • Burning and stinging sensations
  • Permanent redness
  • Pimples (papules and pustules)
  • Appearance of small blood vessels on the skin
Rosacea usually begins at any age over 30 and it shows as redness across the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead, tending to happen more often in women but be more severe in men. The face can embarrassingly become bright red and can cause the facial skin to feel sensitive, and can also burn or sting.
  1. Cleanse your face gently before applying your make-up. Find a cleanser that's best suited to your skin type, avoiding products with harsh chemicals. Try to choose only natural-based products that won't make any flare ups worse. After cleansing, gently pat your face dry with a soft towel, without rubbing your face too harshly.
  2. The fewer ingredients in your moisturiser the better and definitely fragrance free. Ultimately, you simply need a moisturiser that's gentle, rehydrates your skin and stops it from drying out.
  3. A primer will help your make-up sit nicely on your skin. A green-tinted primer, used only on the affected areas, can hide the redness before you apply your foundation.
  4. A good mineral-based foundation usually has fewer unwanted ingredients and will offer good coverage on your skin. Oil-based products might not hide the redness on your skin as effectively.
  5. When you apply your foundation, to avoid irritating your skin you should apply it with a make-up brush and not with your fingers. It's important that you clean your brushes after every use, especially when you suffer from a skin condition, such as rosacea, that's prone to flare-ups.
  6. You should choose your make-up carefully, as vibrant red lipsticks and bright eyeshadow will only magnify any remaining redness.

At Selston Cosmetic Clinic, we provide a state of the art laser treatment, giving effective therapy for this upsetting condition. With the use of laser energies and expert technique, we are obtaining excellent results, not only in the cosmetic appearance but also a marked reduction in the upsetting flushing attacks of rosacea
Our advanced laser system has a cooled sapphire window on the tip of the laser scope to further protect and cool the skin. Laser treatment causes only minimal discomfort, although some may experience a minor stinging sensation on the skin as we deliver the laser pulses. We can offer topical anaesthetic cream to make treatments as comfortable as possible.

Botox, Microdermabrasion & Chemical Peels For Fabulous Skin - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Now that summer has waved farewell and the nights are drawing in, it's time to pack away the summer clothes, bring out the woolly jumpers, and turn up the central heating. Although, it's not just about changing your wardrobe and warming up your home, it's time to think about how we can look after our skin through the long, colder months ahead.
There are many things which affect our skin, from colder weather, taking hot baths and central heating, to eating comforting foods that are probably not be as healthy as they might be. Colder air temperatures are drier, and this tends to take the moisture from the skin, sapping the skin of its natural oils, causing dryness and flaking which can make any existing conditions like dry skin or eczema even worse.
It's easy to get a bit slack with our skin care routine when the days are cold and it starts to get dark really early. We tend to prefer mostly staying indoors in the evenings, warm and snug, watching movies and eating treats. In the summer we cleansed, toned, exfoliated and cared for our facial skin but come winter, we make do with washing our face while in the shower or taking off our make up with a wet wipe. All the dedicated skin regimes from the summer seem not to matter as much in winter, and this results in our faces looking dull and lack-lustre.
But in the colder months we should really take more care of our skin, as we are more likely to experience our skin cracking and flaking, we'll notice roughness and redness, or maybe even start to see deeper, more noticeable fine lines and wrinkles appearing on our face. However these are all common skin care problems that we get in the cold weather, and we can still easily maintain a glowing, hydrated skin right through the coldest winter months.
Microdermabrasion treatment

  • For skin blocked up by dead cells, using a hydrating cleanser, toner and moisturiser can help. Cosmetic treatments such as microdermabrasion are also a great way to dislodge dead and dull cells from the top layer of the skin, resulting in a polished smooth and glowing skin.
  • Your mouth suffers terribly with the cold. Chapped, flaky lips not only look unsightly, but the uneven surface makes it nearly impossible to achieve a smooth lipstick application. Slather on a good lip balm during the day, every day, to keep them hydrated, locking the moisture in.
Chemical peel treatment

  • If you don’t exfoliate regularly, then now is the time to begin, and you should start by increasing your exfoliation routine to two or three times a week. Gentle exfoliation can help to remove dead cells, allowing fresh cells to reach the surface more easily. Try not to use a scrub that is too abrasive, as winter skin is often sensitive and a harsh scrub will likely cause skin irritation. The surface texture of your skin can easily be restored through exfoliation, as the treatment promotes new skin-cell turnover allowing your face to look its best. Alternatively, a chemical peel treatment will improve the skin's texture and tone, while promoting the growth of new skin.
  • Don't forget your hands, feet, elbows or knees. Thick socks and gloves can only offer so much protection, but our hands and feet are vulnerable, growing drier and rougher in the cold weather. At night, applying intensive moisturising cream to the feet and then putting on socks, will help the cream penetrate the skin. Applying hand cream throughout the day will stop the hands getting dry and chapped. After showering, when you lotion your body make sure you don't forget your elbows and knees. Stop them getting rough and scaly by using an intensive body cream.
Botox treatment
  • The cold, windy weather outdoors and the heat from indoors can damage the skin, causing dryness, redness, irritation and even wrinkles. Botox treatment can dramatically soften facial expression lines and wrinkles, which will leave you looking younger. Botox injections will block nerve transmission which temporarily reduces the contractions of the facial muscles that cause wrinkles and frown lines.

Enhance Your Face Using Dermal Filler Treatment - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Anti-ageing treatments for the face are very popular, and dermal filler procedures are one of the most requested at cosmetic clinics. Dermal fillers are an ideal option for those who want to regain their youthful features, improve their facial contours and reduce deep wrinkles. This versatile injectable procedure can plump up, add volume and lift the skin, leaving it smooth, contoured and looking younger.

Our skin stays plump due to the high content of water. The main constituent of dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that's naturally present in the body, which absorbs moisture and keeps the skin hydrated. If you want to keep your face looking plump, soft and with fewer lines, it's important that your skin stays hydrated.

Jawline refining with dermal filler

Ways to check your skin's hydration:
  • One way to check your skin’s hydration levels is to gently pinch the skin beneath your eyes and release. How quickly it plumps back up, indicates how hydrated and elastic your skin is and the faster it snaps back shows the healthier skin quality.
  • Likewise, if you pinch your cheeks and it leaves fine lines, this shows that your skin might be dehydrated or have reduced elasticity.
  • You can check the skin around your mouth by puckering up as if you are going to give a kiss, and if fine lines remain once you have released the pout, this could mean less hydration in the skin.
A doctor injects filler under the skin with a fine needle. The procedure is almost painless and any side effects; such as slight redness, mild swelling and tenderness, are minimal. The treatment can last from 20 minutes to an hour, all depending on what areas you're having done. There's no downtime or recovery needed and you can to return to your daily activities straight away.
Dermal fillers benefit:
  • The face - as anti-ageing treatments, they soften creases, lines and wrinkles and plump up the skin
  • The lips - fillers can reshape, redefine, rejuvenate and rehydrate, giving us a perfect pout
  • The cheekbones - restoring facial volume can drastically improve sunken cheeks
  • Jawline and chin - they can easily be broadened, re-built and re-shaped using fillers
  • Eyes - dermal fillers can fill in the under eye hollows during tear trough treatment
  • Overall - when used together, fillers and botox can achieve a non-surgical face lift
  • Scars - fillers can improve recessed scars
  • Hands - the skin on the hands can look rejuvenated and rehydrated with filler treatment
Dermal fillers used on the nasolabial and marionette lines

Static wrinkles that are visible on a resting face without expression, are ideal for dermal filler treatment. Deflated and sunken areas of the face caused by loss of volume, and can easily be restored using dermal fillers.

Vaser Lipo Treatment For Male Abs - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Nowadays men have definite ideas on how they want their bodies to look, and they're determined to get it looking as good as it can possibly be. Whether it's spending hours in the gym, eating a healthy diet or drinking protein shakes, sometimes it's just not enough. Blokes strive to get an athletic body and it can feel so frustrating, when you've put in all the hard work and you're slimmer and fitter, but still haven't got the exact look you were after, and you're left with stubborn areas of fat that just won't shift.

Vaser lipo can provide a quick, low-pain solution when you have resistant fat that you want gone. At your free consultation at Selston Cosmetic Clinic, Dr Bassi can advise you about potential areas for vasering, your anticipated results, and the recovery process.

We recently treated a client at the clinic who had put in the hours at the gym and lost some weight, but unfortunately, even after months of hard work it was clear that he just wasn't going to achieve the definition on his abdomen that he was hoping for. After vaser treatment with Dr Bassi, he finally has the body he's always wanted.

Before and after vaser lipo

Advantages of vaser lipo include:
  • Speedy recovery - vaser is a gentle ultrasound procedure that's minimally invasive, making it less traumatic than traditional liposuction, and with less downtime for the clients.
  • Precision - vaser lipo can deliver a precise body contouring treatment, allowing extraction of both large and small volumes of fat from different parts of the body. When sculpting the muscle definition, the cosmetic doctor can use more precision to create an aesthetically pleasing result.
  • Skin retraction - the vaser's ultrasound high energy promotes retraction of the skin, leaving the body with smooth contours.
  • Safety - vaser lipo is a safe and minimally invasive procedure that rids the body of excess fat, and the treatment gets performed using local aesthetic.

Vaser lipo is the best, most gentle way of removing localised fat available and it can also give a small degree of skin tightening. Dr Bassi will make tiny incisions in the abdomen, before inserting the small vaser probe. Vaser lipo breaks up the fat cells with ultrasound energy, delivered by the vaser probes. It dissolves the fat cells while leaving other structures, such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue undisturbed. It's performed under local anaesthetic and the results are immediate.

You should consider vaser lipo because:
  • It will decrease those stubborn pockets of fat that won't go away through dieting and exercising alone.
  • It can help create a more balanced and proportioned body.
  • Vaser lipo will give the body more definition creating a more athletic appearance.
  • Your body confidence and self-esteem will improve.

Correct Dark Circles & Tear Troughs - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Deep hollows under the eyes can ruin the overall appearance of a youthful looking face, leaving you looking tired and aged. As we get older, the more we can expect to notice certain changes in our face, such as dark circles and the deepening of the hollows under our eyes, which are also known as the tear troughs.

In our youth, the area beneath the eye is plump and firm, but as time passes it starts to lose volume, and we develop a sunken dip under the eyes. These hollows are usually caused by the thinning of the skin and sagging cheek tissues. Over time the hollows can change in appearance and become longer, deeper and more shadowed.

We use creams, concealers, cucumber slices, serums and even used tea-bags to help disguise our ageing eyes, and help keep them looking youthful. The eyes are the first thing people notice when they look at us, so we want them to look their best. The tear troughs occur due to the thinning of the overlying skin and soft tissue over the bony orbital rim and happens as a result of either the ageing process, genetics or can also be caused by sun damage.

Tear troughs run from the nose side of each eye, in an arc under the lower eyelid. Most people complain of a tired looking appearance due to the darkness caused by the shadow. Troughs happen when we lose volume in the tissue under the eye and above the cheek and are often seem worse in appearance when we're tired or dehydrated.

Filler treatment for tear troughs is ideal for:
  • Sunken eyes
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Tired looking eyes
  • Eye bags
Dermal filler treatment for tear troughs, involves injecting filler into the delicate area under the eye to make subtle enhancements to the tear troughs by filling in the hollow areas. Having a detailed knowledge of the anatomy is essential and at Selston Cosmetic Clinic, Dr. Bassi has over 10 years experience as a specialist cosmetic practitioner and has performed thousands of injectable treatments. We use hyaluronic acid fillers, which are a substance that naturally occurs in the body, they are non animal based and very safe to use. They fill out the hollows and lines under the eyes and they help to mask any dark circles with light reflecting technology.

To minimise any discomfort, a topical anaesthetic cream gets applied about 20 minutes before the  treatment starts, numbing the skin and easing any discomfort. The dermal filler treatment only takes twenty to thirty minutes to complete, and the results are instant and lasts up to twelve months. There's minimal downtime, although you may have a little bruising, as the skin under the eye is very delicate.

Lose Your Man Boobs With Vaser Lipo Treatment - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

There are many reasons why people consider getting vaser lipo treatment. It might be that they can't stay faithful to a restrictive diet, while other people just can't to commit to a regular exercise regime. Sometimes, even when you do persevere with the diet and exercise, it can seem that trying to lose that last stubborn pocket of fat is impossible. Vaser lipo treatment can target many areas, including the waist, hips, love handles, man boobs, chin and the back of the arms.

All men have breast tissue, but unfortunately some have excessive breasts. Gynaecomastia – more commonly known as man boobs, occurs when excess fat develops in a man’s breast area. It would seem that lots of men are becoming anxious over the state of their chests, but now with vaser lipo treatment being a quick procedure and one that's getting fantastic results, men are starting to show an interest and are deciding to do something about it.

It's thought that the increase in obesity is linked to man boobs, but in reality, gynaecomastia has been an issue for lots of men for many years. It's a common condition that causes boys’ and men’s breasts to swell and become larger than normal and it is most common in teenage boys and older men. Vaser lipo is an ideal treatment to rectify this distressing problem.

The Vaser lipo procedure uses advanced ultrasound technology to emulsify the unwanted fat. It's performed under local anaesthetic, using thin probes which avoid the veins, nerves, blood vessels and surrounding tissue, leaving them relatively intact. The fat is then aspirated. The results are instant, although some minor swelling will occur and over the next 6 months further body contouring and skin tightening will become clear.

The benefits of vaser lipo treatment include:
  • The fat content is permanently reduced
  • It tightens the skin
  • The treatment is relatively painless
  • Minimal recovery time
  • The cost is less than surgical alternatives.
  • Great results which allows you to wear the clothes that you want
  • Increased self-esteem
  • Boosts your confidence
Gynaecomastia is a very treatable condition, and male breast reduction using vaser lipo can offer exceptional results and have a positive impact on self-image. Vaser lipo is a highly efficient yet minimally invasive fat removal procedure. It's a great treatment to sculpt and refine your body, selectively removing the unwanted body fat, all without the need for general anaesthetic.

Vaser lipo is the gentlest and most powerful form of liposuction available today. It's a relatively quick procedure and clients are able to return to work within a few days and get back to more vigorous activities after a couple of weeks. This minimally invasive process is gentle on the body, leaving your body with a flat chest and smooth contours that you will be more than willing to show off.

FUE Hair Transplants For a Full Head Of Hair - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Having a full head of hair is something that most men would like to hold on to, for as long as possible. A receding hairline or going bald affects a number of men, lowering their self-esteem, as they simply feel they would be more attractive to potential partners if they had a full head of hair.

There are a few reasons for hair loss:

Genetics
Male pattern baldness or hair loss is largely dictated by our genes, and genetics is probably the most common explanation behind why men lose their hair. It's estimated that more than 80% of cases of male pattern baldness are hereditary.
Natural hair loss
Losing some amount of hair is a natural process. From morning till night, the average adult male will lose around 100 hairs from the head, and though some of these hairs get replaced by new ones, some are not. This is all part of the natural ageing process.
Sudden or patchy hair loss
Sudden or patchy hair loss may happen because of stress, or maybe an underlying disease or condition. Alopecia areata affects about 2% of all people at some point in their life. It's an immune system disorder which causes the hair follicles to stop producing hairs. Small amounts of hair are suddenly lost in small patches. In most cases the condition is temporary and hair growth in the bald patch returns, but about 10% of those who have alopecia areata have longer-term hair loss.

A lot of men think that thick hair signifies youth and good health, but feel that thinning or balding hair suggests a body and mind that's getting old. Sometimes, this can feel like they’re fighting a losing battle and despite their best efforts, they think that nothing can stop the inevitable baldness.

Hair transplant treatment gives the client a full, natural-looking head of hair using the client’s own follicles. The doctor removes hair follicles from parts of the scalp where there's a high density of hair, and it's then transplanted into the thinning or balding areas.

The two main techniques used for hair transplants are Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) which involves two steps:

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is simple and painless. The hair follicles get extracted one by one using custom-made, precise micro-surgical tools which are less than a millimetre in diameter. The doctor extracts the hair without an incision, meaning there is only minimal discomfort after the procedure, making recovery time fast.

Follicle Unit Transplantation (FUT) is the hair restoration procedure when the extracted hair gets transplanted into the bald or thinning areas in their naturally occurring groups of one to four hairs. For the hair-line, single hairs get transplanted and for behind the hair-line bigger groups get added for density. Each follicular unit gets extracted and transplanted with its sebaceous glands, nerve and blood supply.

For men, hair loss can cause distress and lead to poor confidence and low self-esteem and lots of them do all they can to prevent hair loss.
