Get Rid of Facial Spider Veins with Laser Treatment - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Spider veins are permanently dilated capillaries; tiny blood vessels which run close to the surface of the skin and look like fine red, or sometimes purple, wavy lines. They are sometimes called thread veins or broken veins and these highly visible tiny veins sit just under the surface of the skin and are very delicate. Damaging these veins might cause them to dilate and break, and once they are broken, the veins will stay that way and won't constrict back to their normal thickness or repair themselves.

Anyone can get spider veins, and while these veins do occur on the face, a great number of them also show up on the legs. Ageing causes the weakening of veins and skin, and the ageing skin can make the veins more noticeable. Hereditary predisposition is the most common cause of spider veins and if other members of your family have these veins, it's quite likely that you will develop them too. Facial veins can become more prominent as we get older, but there are actually six main triggers that can provoke them at any age.

These are:
  • Pregnancy
  • Excessive sun exposure
  • Temperature extremes
  • Too much alcohol
  • Facial injuries
  • High blood pressure
Scrubbing your face too vigorously or washing with water that's too hot can also cause facial veins. Age, lifestyle, rosacea and smoking can also play their part.

The safest and most effective treatment for spider veins on the face is with laser treatment. The cool tip of the laser is slowly passed over the skin directly above the veins, and the energy from the laser is preferentially absorbed by the coloured tissues. The energy causes the veins to heat up and collapse. Some people feel a tingling or stinging sensation, although most clients report feeling only minor discomfort. Clients can have an anaesthetic cream applied if desired, to relieve any discomfort. After the laser treatment, the body slowly re-absorbs the veins.

Laser treatment takes only 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated, and recovery on most people takes no time at all, although the skin over the treated area might be mildly sensitive for a few days after the treatment. The look of spider veins will greatly improve after just one treatment, however, to fully remove them most people will need two or three sessions. After the treated veins disappear, they will not re-occur.
